Best LAN games?

I'm wondering what are the best online games that multiple people on a LAN can connect?
Games like CS:S would be great... but I don't want to have to buy multiple copies of the game.
So I'd prefer to find games that are either free, or that only require you to pay for one copy of the game but 2 or more people on a network can go online.

Trackmania Nations is decent for lanning if you like racing type stuff. the new America's Army might be a fun free lanning game in a few weeks if they get rid of all the bugs.
those are the only free ones I can think of right now, don't your friends buy games?

I like Unreal Tournament/2003 both games are just instat killing. Great for fast paced game play. Otherwise Age of empires is awesome for quick RTS stuff.

Unreal Tournament (original or 2004) for quick FPS. Age of Empires or Red Alert 2 for RTS. NeverWinter Nights for RPG.

Worms is mega sweet.
I doubt America's Army 3 will be fixed, but if it does get fixed than that would be a good free FPS.
Not free, but Company of Heroes is a FANTASTIC RTS if you and your guys are into them. I love the game.

I believe Far Cry was a limited offer at the time. I haven't played all of them mentioned, but you can look through it if you're looking for free games.

I was at a LAN party where all we played was CoD2 (brand new at the time!) and Armagetron.
Take a guess which one we had more fun playing (and it wasn't the expensive one) ;)

1. it's got flamethrowers and you can light people on fire
2. it's free
3. fire fire fire
4. awesome multiplayer team-based fps

Fear 2 Multiplayer is free deathmatch style gameplay, its pretty good too.
