Matrox next-gen GXM wish list

I've yet to figure out what would be the best way to contact Matrox, so I decided instead to start a thread here for a features "wish list" for a theoretical next-generation GXM module.

1) Use the just released DisplayPort 1.2 spec to increase input bandwidth so we can use triple 1920x1080, 1920x1200 and the new 2048x1154 resolution displays.

2) Display rotation resolution options.

3) Add cylindrical correction options (see SoftTH capabilities) via additions to the PowerDesk-SE utility settings.

That's all I could think of atm. Even so those would be huge additions. Anyone else have ideas to add? Hopefully, these ideas can be relayed to the people at Matrox that can do something about implementing it in future products.

ThatÂ´s what I would like the most!

But you would need one hell of a machine for doing it right!

Allow user to create any resolution, official support included or not.

Including not-same-ratio mixes, like 2 4:3 + 1 16:9 etc.

Not only mix ratios and resolutions but have something like being able to mix standard def center and rotated screens for the sides.

they better fix THIS GEN problems..

1) no 1920x1200 support in games under XP
2) somehow output 1680x1050 at 60hz so everyone's monitor can play in 5040x1050.

Better to give detatched constructive criticism than to be hostile about an issue. I find developers take people more seriously when there is no emotion envolved with stating just the facts. Are there current gen problems? Yes. Are they most likely aware of them? Almost certainly. I think they're looking to find resolutions to anything within thier realm of enfluence. Sometimes it is because of software or hardware outside thier control though, like nVidia/ATI driver behavior or DX10 limitations within the OS. Don't be surprised if a lot of these problems are the fault of ATI, Microsoft and nVidia, not Matrox. For example, I'm still angered at nVidia/Microsoft about the loss of span mode capability.

you do realize, that the issue is not Matrox but the Dual-DVI specs here...

I'm quite sure Matrox could give us 3x2560x1600@120Hz, but unfortunately there isn't any way to transfer that with a DVI link....

btw. is you system fast enough to run reasonable results at 3x1920x1200?

There might be, provided matrox uses software to hijack the display output that only a th2g would understand and use compression of some kind.

Or maybe do something similar to old voodoo2 bonding with both dvi ports of a card in clone mode to double the bandwidth out available.

Even if the pc to th2g is 57Hz they could make their output at 60Hz, using firmware code to compensate for the extra 3Hz and ensure compatibility with monitors. However that would involve more hard work on their part, instead they've shown they usually take the easy way.

I would like to see a button on the TH2Go box that allows you to run it in single-monitor mode. Instead of splitting the image three ways, it would just act as a pass-through to a single monitor while this mode is engaged. This would be useful for installing a new OS or messing around in the BIOS.

You can do this by using the Matrox GXM Setup to set up a single-screen resolution. It will keep the single screen until it gets told to go to a higher res than the single screen, so it works for BIOS and installing OS's...

Perhaps they can work on easier to understand instructions for the less technically inclined.

I have had a heck of a hard time setting my system up, and it seems to have problems every time I do an update of my Graphics Card Drivers.

As a result, I have had to contact phone tech support at least 4 times in order for them to help me out. It also seems to need a certain amount of random restarts before the system will work properly.

When everything works, it is awesome, but it is a bit of a chore to get it set up properly and keep it working. A little bit of thought needs to go into making it easier to set up, and into more of a 'plug and play' system... if that is the right phrase to use.

Well, if you aren't running Windows this won't work. Also, if you are doing a fresh install, it would be much easier to press a button than install the entire OS just to install the GXM so you can actually read what is on the BIOS screen.

If it's not broke, don't update it (video drivers)... Perpetually updating to the latest video card drivers potentially introduces operator error into the situation every time they're updated. I always have to wonder why people chronically screw with their video card drivers and wonder why things aren't working right. :wink:

No, the info is stored on the box, so once you set it up, it should work no matter what you're running....

I know this because since I've added that setting, I've reformatted/reinstalled a couple times, and the screens for it have always been the right res on the middle screen...
