Ratio is neat, but what resolution does it use? a stretched 1080p like plasma do with xga or something else?

So far seems more marketing gimmick than anything else.

Definitely beats a th2g provided a decent res. though.

My guess is it's something like 2520x1080, capable of displaying 1920x1080 broadcasts either with black bars at the sides, zoomed to fit the screen, or stretched to fit at user's preference. It would of course easily display letterbox movies full screen in 1:1 though, but anamorphic 16:9 ones again with the above options. I assume if I'm right, the same options would be available for gaming at 1920x1080. All the better if games started supporting a 21:9 resolution though. I'd love to see Philips make something like this in a smaller size in PLED.

Germany, Belgium, the UK and France

And somewhere, right in the middle of those countries, there's the one they usually forget. For crying out loud, they even have Belgium in there!

interesting option for large screen near triplehead wide for gaming.
so now when im watching porn, the girls look really fat!

it's like a middle compromise between a really large screen HDTV and the ultra wide view of triplehead2go.

I'll be interested in it but it have to be priced reasonable and good resolution

not like that 2800x900 crap of the alienware.

btw: I won't buy philips products they break down easily and their customersupport sucks

Do Philips actually make thier own LCDs? My guess is that panel will be available to several manufacturers.

To even ask if Philips makes their own LCD panels is forgetting that being a pioneer of TVs with this aspect ratio takes just that, a large manufacturer that has such capability. There's only a few manufacturers that could pull off such a feat.

Wow! I might have upgrade my living room TV earlier than I thought! Was holding out for QHD but this will work!

Seamless near Triple wide and Cinema HD is a big win for gaming and movie buffs like me!

Something like this could be a convenient way to circumvent the need for a TH but then you would lose the tilt of the outer monitors that I am sure is somewhat needed when sitting close and trying to play in surround.

But as an exotic product when/if its out to buy I am sure it cost more than what its worth.

The catch 22 of ultra wide LCD gaming displays is you have to sit far enough away to avoid seeing the sides at too wide a viewing angle, and I doubt they'll be made with IPS type panels. So the angling of the outer two displays in a TH arrangement is indeed necessary, but the bezels are quite obtrusive.

Hence my question. Looks like LG makes the LCD for Philips.

It was originally formed as a joint venture by the Korean electronics company LG Electronics and the Dutch company Koninklijke Philips Electronics in 1999 to manufacture active matrix liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and was formerly known as LG.Philips LCD but Philips sold most of its shares in the venture, now accounting to 13.2%.[3] LG Electronics is the largest shareholder, with a 37.9% share in the venture and the company's name was changed to LG Display to reflect this change.
