I have been unable to locate a resolution mod for the original Diablo, not Diablo 2, so I tried modding it myself using a hex editor. I was not able to find the hex values for the resolution, 640 x 480, so I was wondering if there is another method I could try or if there is already a solution somewhere.

There are still Major bugs with that one. And of course it will get you banned from battle.net now. There was a real good working high res mod (singleplayer/open bnet only) from here though:

Hang on... there's a working widescreen/res mod for Diablo 2? (I don't care if it's not battle.net compatible as I haven't played D2 on b.net since LoD came out...)

Oh god, looks like I need to set up a BNet clone and a Realm for everyone to jam on now. Specially now that we can do it in glorious widescreen!

I found a bunch for Interplay games so I figured there is a method for resmodding 2d games. I looked for a hours but never found anything. I would settle for playing d2 for a while but I really liked playing on the Eastern Sun mod for 1.12 and the resmod is for 1.10.

but d2multires version 1.02 is for 1.12a, i have it personally, although it works on 1 of my 2 pcs, and i cannot get it to work whatever i am doing with it.

Oh man I totally missed that about it being for the original Diablo, Sorry man I have no clue.

Blizzard is taking suggestions for Diablo 2 patch 1.13, The items that top the list will hopefully get added.

Help make higher resolutions including widescreen climb the list!

Thanks for the links I am assassinating my way through D2 now :) Never played it before (did the original) and it is fun so far. Picked up a copy of the complete diablo collection for next to nothing on the net ;)
