5040x1050 60Hz

Something Entech mentioned to me during our ill fated attempt to get Powerstrip + ATI 5040 working was that at the timings Matrox supply to the nVidia card its not actually running at 57Hz.. its actually at 55Hz Vertical and 59Hz Horizontal and the Pixelclock (ie TMDS transmitter) is not maxed at 57Hz, it should reach be 60Hz on Dual Link connections.

After realising Dead Space and perhaps other games do not show 5040x1050 as it isnt a "standard" 60Hz res I thought Id test out changing the custom nVidia mode from: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/node/9741 to 60Hz (all other settings the same inc Pixel clock).

And it works.. and Dead Space does indeed show 5040x1050@60 (Paddy's theory was correct!) and plays correctly on TH2G (as does SoftTH ;) ).

However, this doesnt change the output from the TH2G, its still output 55Hz as it always does, its only changing the signal going to the TH2G.

If you have a "Display Info" setting in your monitor's OSD please reply here and let me know what it says when in 5040x1050. If the output is always 55hz at 5040 then it may explain why people have run into monitor problems that on paper shouldnt happen.

Hi bud.

My three LG 22" Flatron monitors display 5040x1050 at 57Hz (in XP 32 bit). Don't know if this is any good to you?

Using Matrox's own hack or manually added?

I checked the other PC (Dell E248 24") and it displayed 56Hz. My new Acer P223W displays 55hz and my Dell 2208WFPs (22") display 56Hz. Afaik the Dells simply round up the frequency.

So basically no monitor I have access to is showing 57Hz yet they all run 5040 fine.

Just the Matrox update. No manual hacks here.

I press the monitor OSD and it says 1680x1050 at 57hz for each screen...

59.4kHz(sic) 56Hz PN (sic again, probably relates to the TN panel type :?) here with Samsung 2253LWs.

Hi Mattsimis,

Thought I would post a reply thanking you for your help on this. I've been trolling these forums for a long time waiting for a solution to the Vista X64 issues so that I could move from the 177.XX Drivers I have been using.

Last night I installed the new Nvidia 180.48 Drivers and the updated Matrox GXM. I managed to get everything up and running by simply following your instructions. I was still getting the infamous Samsung "Not Optimal Settings" message; up until I changed the custom resolution from 57Hz to 60Hz.

Now this message doesn't pop up anymore and the monitors are reporting that they are running at 59HZ!! I'm pretty sure this is an incorrect report by the monitor.

Thanks again.

I'm actually using the 7680x1600 version on my desktop of that at the moment.

BTW: Google Orton's Process and pick up an action for Photoshop to apply that glow effect to any picture. I think it's a cool FX. It makes real photos look like CG renders.

So does this mean you can fool Windows into 5040x1050 at 60Hz, and the TH2Go is still outputting ~57Hz?

I'm pretty sure that is what's happening.

In the Windows Vista Display Settings>Advanced>Monitor dialogue the only screen refresh rate I can select now is 60Hz. In games it's the same story I can only select a refresh rate of 60Hz when at 5040x1050.

The Matrox GXM is still reporting 5040x1050 @ 57Hz as my current display mode though.

I've been away for quite some time, but am glad to be back...tried 60Hz and it seems to work and gets rid of those annoying monitor nags. Not restarted or tried gaming etc, but chuffed nonetheless :)

This doesn't work in Windows 7 I'm afraid. Please don't tell me we went through all this for Vista, only for it to be made redundant in Windows 7?

Aaargh!

This 60Hz fix was holding my rig together for the longest time, but I've just updated to 190.58 and 2.05.00.020 and it no longer seems to work. I've got 5040x1050@57Hz, but the nag screens are an utter pain. Short of changing screens, is there anything I can do? I read around the forum and I can't see an answer, but I've been away for some time so apologies if I've missed it.

If there's no fix I'll be seriously tempted to lose the triplehead2go as the small things are really beginning to annoy me, such as having to reapply the desktop divider every time I boot.

What do you mean by "Nag screen"?

The screen my monitor throws up informing me I'm not running optimal settings. There're a few screens that support 57Hz but reeeeally like to remind you it should be 60Hz.

What are you actually changing to 60 hertz, the top basic box or the bottom advanced refresh rate?!

Both. Is that wrong? I was on the old drivers so long I can't remember if that's wrong now...you've got me wondering.

I wish there was someone that made a little app that would fool the OS that the monitors are running 60Hz but its actually only 57hz :) So games like dead space would allow me to run higher than 4320x900 :D
