Vampire the Masquerade- Bloody patcher won't work

Topic title. Have a 16:10 widescreen monitor for my shiny new laptop, goes to 1440 900. Dled the oft mentioned resolution patcher. When I fire up the game though, the resolution can't go any higher than 1024 768. The only two options are that and 800 600, no matter how many times I patch it. I have also tried 16:9 resolutions as well, to no avail.
Specs:
Vista 64
2.2 core duo
8800M GTS
4 gb ram

Not sure what they are talking about with the cut-scenes. Oh well.
If that does not work you would need to hex edit the file.

Hi. Make sure you are running the patcher from within the 'bin' subfolder...
