Space Siege demo

Post by Sinbad »

The demo seems to support H+ and I was able to run the game in 2560x1600 res, although it was unplayable at that res on my system (AMD 2.4Ghz, 2GB, 7950GT) with all detail on max. 1920x1200 was barely playable. It looks like this game may require some horsepower. The demo doesn't support multi-player.

Just like the dungeon sieges it's for those that like mindless hack and slash.

Be warned the demo is extremely short. As in, blink and you missed it, short.

Hope the full game ain't proportional, it'll dissapoint people coming from the dungeon sieges that last 100+ hours.

I read a couple mini-reviews of the demo. Sadly it seems I should pass on this game.

Am I in a tiny minority that thinks games such as these (click-based Hack'n Slashers) would benefit greatly from 3rd person action controls? Really, how awesome would it be if you could actually dodge in Diablo? How about adding some skill requirements like timing, aim, etc. to melee attacking? Honestly, I think this genre could be revolutionized by just changing its control scheme. Yes, I know it means more work for animation, collision-detection, etc., but I think the depth it would add to gameplay could be immense.

I recently ordered Avencast for this very reason. I'm hoping it will be a fresh experience. Maybe it will be one step closer to the Holy Grail--a magic/fantasy game with WADS+mouse controls (and coop, of course  )

Sadly, most games like this have a very shallow role-playing element. There have been a rash of games like this: Silverfall, Fate, Space Hack, Loki, Dungeon Siege 2, Two Worlds, Sacred, etc. I think games like these are intentionally simplistic as to appeal to a wider demographic. Games with a rich role-playing experience are few.

I tried the Avencast demo and grew bored very quickly. It's not my type of game. Others might disagree with me.
