Trying to make a decision on a new LCD monitor is causing my brain-cloud to act up.

Please list the best 22" LCD monitors.

I would most likely shop at NewEgg, ZipZoomFly or BestBuy.

I read that some LCD monitors have a glossy screen finish. I would rather not have this. I play games and use FSX. I don't want any glare. I also need an LCD monitor that is fast (low ms).

BestBuy in my location has the following LGs. I can't find any reviews for them. The first on has the letter 'G' in the model number and it's my understanding that that means Glossy screen.

Looks like the only difference between those two is that the more expensive one has anti-glare. But that only really makes a difference if you use it in a room with a lot of ambient light.

I just bought myself a slightly different version of those monitors a couple weeks ago and I'm fairly happy with it. The only downside (other than having to pay for it) is that it has NO height adjustment, but that's fairly moot as i jsut ordered an articulating arm so i can stick it to my wall.

Apperently Samsungs are pretty good too, but cost a bit more.

I'd say get it, and be sure to try to price-match it to save yourself some cash. Or wait for a sale - If you're lucky you'll be able to find a floor employee that will give you the scoop on future sales.

PS - you may want to look for one with a DVI connection. The picture isn't really too much better than good ol' VGA connections, but it makes for easier setup and slightly more accurate colors.

Oh, and be sure your video card can handle that resolution. Yes, they'll run in lower res's but larger numbers like 1680x1050 need at least 512mb video ram.

Case in point - compared to my old 1440x900 I lost 12fps with Crysis when i moved up to 1680x1050.

PPS - this is a good time to include your system specs in your sig.

I don't know which monitor is better, but I don't like glossy screens. They look great as long as I don't try to read off them.

This one L227WTG-PF had a fantastic image but also fantastic glare.

So i ended up taking that other 22 back and got myself teh aforementioned W2252TQ. I've tried 5 22"'s in the past couple weeks and this one is by far the best.

I tried two Samsung, two acer, and this is the third LG I tried. the TQ has the least backlight bleed and the best OSD interface. Glossy or no is not a matter for me as i keep my lights behind my screen. Though again, no height adjustment and ni swivel. But again that also doesn';t really matter as my mounitor arm is on it's way. Yay Monoprice.com.

I got the L227 and don't like the way it shows text. And the choice of resolutions is bad.

Exactly what DVI type cable are you using?
What video card are you using?

I'm using the cheap-o DVI that came with the monitor, I think it's a DVI-I but I've a couple gold-plated lower-gauge DVI-D's also coming from Monoprice. $50 to buy them i nlocal stores, Mono has tehm for less than $10 a piece..

I have an Evga 8800gts 512mb, as my sig shows.

As for resolutions all i ever use in games and windows is the native 1680x1050, so that's not an issue. One settings I'd suggest though is to disable "RTC". It's some auto-gamma settings that's quite annoying.

On a sidenote, (okay, paragraph) I've found that if you hold the MENU button while powering the minitor up you get a "Service Menu" in which you can change some advanced settings. However, be SURE you record the original values! One of the menu items lets you tell teh monitor's porogrammign which mionotor tou have. Th3e model numbers liekly won;t amtch exactly, but if it displays a 20" model then you nwo it's set incorrectly. I've read in a couple other forums that folks have found that to be the case.

I recently purchased the LG L227WTG-PF and am loving it so far just out of the box, the gloss is a plus for me especially since how my computer is set up, glare is not an issue.

My question is this..please excuse my lack of knowlwdge here and If my question is stupid then sorry...I have a new computer which will be arriving in a few days which has 2 Nvidia 8800 GT 512mb graphics cards. I also upgraded to 4 mb ram. In case this info is needed it is a Dell model XPS 630 with Intel duo Quad core processors....

ok my question is regarding the DVI-D cable. (The monitor only came with an analog) One of my questions was answered by your post with the link so now I know I need a dual link DVI-D cable. Does that sound right? From what I understand, although the graphics card has a DVI-I, I can still use a DVI-D cable, correct? In the monitor description page (on best.buy.com) it says: " DVI-D with HDCP, 15-pin D-sub". So when I look for a cable does It have to include HDCP in the name or is that already a part of DVI-D.

Mike if you don't mind my asking can you please link the cable you purchased for your LG monitor if you think It would work well with mine?

You don't have to have a dual-link cable. Very few monitors have dual-link capacity. I found out that a dual-link cable handles twice the bps. It's not necessary.

A Single-Link DVI-D to DVI-D is just find. The DVI-D will work ok in a DVI-I socket. I did get two DVI dual-link cables anyway and I see no difference. DVI-I just means Integrated.

I am just learning about this stuff and I have dual-link and single-link cables and they appear to do the same thing. You could try emailing support at the url I posted to get more information. So really I am not sure what you should do. If you find the dual-link type not to expensive then go for it.

As far as HDCP I just iqnored that. Here is some info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP.

The single-link cable from Bestbuy works just fine and was a Dynex 2M (6.6 feet), model DX-DV12M.

Thanks for the reply Vector! It has helped me see things more clearly and I think I will go for the DVI-D dual-link cable as I will be able to take advantage of it later when I decide to up-size this monitor :P It may happen sooner rather than later.

When looking at the cables I noticed there was quite a bit of difference in the prices even when the same lengths. Is there a difference visually depending on what the cable is made of? I did read somewhere if the cable is a longer one the quality makes a difference. ( My monitor would be right next to the computer ) I would be willing to pay more if it makes a difference in the picture quality, but I noticed others mentioning "I picked up a cheapie one..." as if it's all the same, so of course I don't want to be foolish and waste money either if it's all the same. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?
