Samsung 245BW Aspect Ratio Scaling

After much deliberation, I decided to purchase a Samsung 245BW. I have not been disappointed with games that support widescreen, as the monitor works very well, with good colors and excellent response time (haven't seen any ghosting).
I am, however, frustrated with the lack of aspect ratio scaling. My x1900xt has the option to use centered timings, but it seems the monitor wrests control from the card when displaying non-native resolutions and displays them stretched. I would like to display non-natives as letter-boxed within the native, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly. Does anyone have any tips/pointers on how to accomplish this? Do the nVidia drivers correct this problem with this specific monitor with their own version of aspect ratio scaling?
Responses from anyone that has this exact monitor and their experience with getting this function to work correctly (either ATI or nVidia) would be GREATLY appreciated. Tips and tricks are also welcome.
Thanks!
