Soldier of fortune 1 widescreen solution please

Hello everyone
I have a 1680 x 1050 native TFT and until recently I have been very happy with it but recently I have been longing to play all the classic old games, in particular soldier of fortune 1 which I think was based on the original quake 1 engine so quite old.
I have been looking around for a solution so far the best I have found has been soldier of fortune 2, which I plan to play next in anticipation for Soldier of fortune payback.
If anyone could help me out I would be very grateful, it seems such a shame not to be able to play all the old classics.
