Ok, Ok, in all seriousness, This is good news. I loved the original Mafia. It was one of the most cinematic games of its time. I personally think it put GTAIII to shame.

You got 6 different threads about Bioshick Gabbo out there, one of them with 111.000 hits (probably 500 each minute  )

Not everything can be related to Bioshick  :P   :P :)

Any system reqs for Mafia II yet? Looks a bit shader intensive.

I plan on upgrading my P4 3GB CPU (single core HyperThreading), X800XT-PE, 1GB OCZ Plat RAM system with an XFX1950GT 512MB and another GB of OCZ Plat RAM soon, but I worry that the sigle core CPU will hold me back some.

I mainly just want to play the games that aren't stressing dual core requirements and DX10 support in '08 with it though then build a new DX10 rig end of next year with a next gen quad core, 9800GTX, and 4 GB RAM on Vista SP1.

first post after year or so :)

so Mafia 2 should be out at the end of this year (autumn 2009). There are rumors that the team is working hard but it will be tight for them to catch that term, however the publisher (and also new owner of Illusion Softworks - 2K games) ensured their stockholders that Mafia 2 WILL BE out this year so I guess it will.

There is new gameplay video (console alpha-version) - watch here:

2 older trailers:

(downloadable HD versions are available on official site: http://www.mafia2game.com)

Screenshots:

Game will be released simultaneously on PC/X360/PS3.

This is so going to blow Godfather II away it's not funny. I can't say that gameplay video did justice to those pristine screenshots though. I couldn't tell if it was the platform, the way the video was made or inherent blur effects in the game, but it was butt ugly by comparison. Hopefully the PC version will look much better and you can turn off blur effects if the game has them.

...and tone down the bloom effects as well.

I've got high hopes for Mafia II, but why is it that some devs put more time into overblown post-processing fx than gameplay?

Because your average console gamer loves it.

It will be more about story then about shooting, i believe the story and logical puzzles, and superb cutscenes will make the game outstanding - as devs said once - the game will be like a movie. The game wil not have as open world as GTA4 (come anywhere you want and start any mission) but more linear (you will have some sort of open world, but you will mainly follow a storyline).

Lots of features are not implemented yet - and will be (physx, rubbish in the city streets, speed indicator in cars, you will be able to shoot through some objects like that table cover in video, car driving is still not in final phase so it may be less arcade and a bit more realistic), devs said these things afer leaking Gamespot gameplay footage (which you can see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvQ2UlEXkfk and that was removed from Gamespot).

Ya see, that's what I love about this forum, players here get that PP is overrated and overused. They could at the very least make PP completely removable via the menu in PC games that inherit it from their console counterparts.

Actually in that video he remarked that it will be primarily action oriented. Maybe they just mean the story will be more fleshed out than GTA IV's, which in may ways was too vague and repetitious.

One of the things I really liked was the use of objects in the environment, like throwing a chair or smacking someone over the head with it.

I've heard some speculate the system requirements will be about the same as for GTA IV, but I certainly hope it's optimized better. I have a feeling if the PC version ends up looking as good as the screenshots, the reqs may be even higher.

Well a large part of what makes GTA4 so resource heavy is that it uses the CPU more than most PC games. If Mafia is developed in a more traditional way, it could easily pump out better visuals with less hardware required.

Despite that I can still play it on my P4 3Ghz rig, esp now that you can turn off shadows and reflections. Niko can actually run along the sidewalk in daylight now without looking like the Six Million Dollar Man in slow motion. Of course it's a bit different when the action picks up in missions like Three Leaf Clover. I often wish Niko could sprint like an athlete as I've seen him do in some videos. None the less I can get through the game without it.

I know what you mean about reliant on the CPU though. I have a real hard time getting to the chopper with the boat on the hard ending without using the lowest possible settings and the cheat to make the weather nice. Even then I sometimes just miss the chopper, I'm going to drop the res to 800x600 in windowed mode if I can just for that segment.

If Mafia II's gameplay graphics look as good as the screenshots, it will still be a demanding game even if less reliant on the CPU, which I'm not counting on because lots of games are recommending at least dual core now. It's only a 10 sq mi map, but it's also full of dense city structures and population.

Shadows off in GTA4 makes my fps skyrocket... I wonder why such ugly shadows take up so many resources. I have to keep them on though, it's hard for me to play with them off.
