TH2G Digital - Single Screen Gaming Thread

Hi Gang,
As we were discussing this elsewhere, I thought it deserved its own thread.
If you need a rehash of this topic - in short, the TH2G Digital in single screen will output to the monitor one spot - the left, instead of center, which common sense and the analog does perform. Done.
To open, I did state I was returning mine unopened due to this, in part basically because it sends a message, and it must have!
I got a phone call on my machine last night from aq Matrox Technical Support Supervisor stating they were aware of the issue, and that they believed they might have a way if making a software fix for this, and that he would be testing and let me know what occurrs, etc. If I had questions that I should give him a call, etc. (He also notes that he is going on vacation this next week ... and has assigned someone on his team to test this "Fix") :)
I was originally going to just type verbatim the message, but you all get the jist.
I'm still going to return mine, but I plan on calling him a week from Monday and seeing how things are progressing on the issue.
I might yet get one in the future, a faint glimmer of hope here.

That is *excellent* news!
I suggest as I did in the other thread that people keep the pressure up by email Matrox and complaining.
I was CEO of a company long enough to know that concerted email campaigns *are* paid attention to as they are often indicative of wider customer dissatisfaction.

Just to add I emailed my concerns to Matrox and had a reply stating that the engineering guys were looking into the issue.

Yeah that's the same line they told me about the static wavy lines on my analog version that many other people were also getting....never heard from them again. Good luck.

Well then .. Luck favoreth RW-1 ...
Here is a copy of my response, sent today from Matrox, and my original email I sent.
(I don't have the heart to tell 'em it's already been returned, I can of course get it again):
"Hello Marc, Thank you for contacting Matrox.
When TripleHead2Go Digital Edition is running in single-output mode, the left display is the active display; however, while gaming in a single-screen configuration, it is preferable to have the center display as the primary display.
Matrox will release a new firmware for TripleHead2Go Digital Edition to activate this set-up. This firmware update will be available through Tech Support on Thursday, August 2nd.
You can contact our Tech support by phone at 514-685-0270 or email at
[email protected].
Please note that in order to receive technical support by phone or email, you must first register your card and obtain a client ID number, if you have not done so, please visit the following link: http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/clientid.php.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for choosing Matrox.

Email:

I then actually got a second email from her thus appending the firmware release date:
"I unfortunately made an error in my previous email and the firmware update will be available through Tech Support on Friday August 3rd, instead of Thursday August 2nd. "
My original email:
This is an email notifying Matrox that I am RETURNING a bought Triple Head 2 Go Digital edition from Provantage unopened and unused.
A basic design flaw with the unit has been uncovered with poreting of the single screen resolutions to the left monitor, vice the center, whereas common sense for any usage would cry out for it to be on the center monitor, and is demonstrated by the same capability in the analog version that I was replacing.
As I am not going to own a digital version and then either have to wait for a correction, or worse yet, have to purchase another unit after any changes are made, I am simply not obtaining one.
I hope that Matrox will address the issue and either re-release a corrected unit, or find a method of modifying the existing ones to correct the issue.
As this product is particulary suited to gaming, you have a large market base that most likely will respond in the same fasion as I am.
Please do not disreguard this issue as unimportant.
So,once again, literary competance wins out!
Now, I'll wait until you guys out there with the digitals actually test this ...
I'm sure Wazoo will be smiling now ... :D

Hmm, I guess I'll let you do the testing Waz ... then I'll re-order.
Looking over the email, I wonder if we'll see the upgrade in support on the site, or have to request it ....

I also ordered my TH2Go-D from SafeHarborComputers.com.
They are the only place I could find one in stock.

Ok.... got everything hooked up...
I spoke with Matrox and the only way to get the firmware update seems to be to register and then request it.
The tech support guy did it for me and I got it.
Here is a link for people that need it and don't want to wait for Matrox:

I installed it and it works perfectly.... even during BIOS boot-up.
Make sure to shut down PowerDesktop before installing the upgrade per Matrox.

powering dual 1920x1200 monitors..

To those with TH2Go digital ed. and 2 or more (or even 1) 1920x1200 monitors.. could you test the dual-link capability of TH2Go and the quality of the image split at the full maximum resolution of 3840x1200 digitally.. and no cropping and image adjustment needed?
Thanks.
I have the DH2Go digital that was suppose to do 1920x1200 x2.. (through analog RAMDAC) it was semi doable.. the best I coud do is one full screen monitor and one with 1/4 of the screen chopped off.. however resolution/clear/readable text is crap. Even all other smaller 2 screen resolution are unacceptable/un-doable. the DCC identification of device seems to be non-functional. I may have a dud ... so claim warranty soon..
Soooo.... will the TH2Go digital split the image perfectly ... before I dunk my money on it....

This problem can be caused by your panels, since the kind of signal send out of the DH2G could be misunderstood by your 1920x1200 panels (these guys are more touchy when it comes to their native resolution than other 1440x900 or 1680x1050 monitors).
Try the adjust image quality button on gxm setup menu, it will readjust the phase of the sent signal. And try to set your panel to different ratios (fit to screen, 1:1, etc.) in your monitor menu.

DON'T DO IT- I just did tried and I now have 3 blank monitors!
powerdesktop was shut down and I made a back up- Everything seemed fine. It said restart PC, and I did. Now I can't reload the backup or the new firmware, just gives an error and tells me to retry. Obviously very hard to do it with blank monitors! Even setting up on my Dell (to the point of clicking OK to do it) then swapping the DVI to the TH2G then pushing the mouse still doesn't work.
I am very peeved to say the least!

Edit- have played around with it, the central monitor will display (in a washed out and blue colour) under an odd WS resolution. However the PC is recognising ALL three monitors individually. But not the TH2G- because it is not working, I surmise. Still shows a green light but still get error message when trying to flash the firmware -bugger

Unknown if this is related... but when I was on the phone with one of the tech guys, he said they had an issue with the 8800GTX running DVI.
Longshot... but did you try the analog cable from the computer to the TH2Go?

Sorry I don't understand, I have a DVI cable and an analog cable with a DVI converter from the GTX to the TH2G. It worked fine until I tried the 'flash'. What do you mean try the analog cable- replace it? take it off? take the DVI cable off- no image with the DVI off, makes no difference if the analog is off?

I meant use the analog input on the TH2Go box and not the DVI input.

When the DVI cable is disconnected, the light is red and you get not output to the screens. Analog only doesn't work, and didn't work before the flash either. AFAIK you have to have the DVI in for the TH2G to do anything.
I might be wrong, and I have thried to flash with both, either and none(!) of the DVI/analog inputs in
Methinks it is going to have to take a trip to Canada

First of all, you should only use either VGA or DVI connection with the TripleHead2Go, but NOT both of them at the same time.
Secondly, if you're using NVIDIA SLI, then you'll have only one output available from your graphics card(s). This could explain why an analog signal never seemed to work, when a digital signal worked just fine (before flashing).
Now the problem is to figure out, if your TH2G went broken because of flashing or maybe because of incorrect cabling...

Man do I feel like a tosser
When it said TH2G digital edition only supports 3840x1024 on GFX cards that support dual DVI I thought you needed both cables in and they included the old analog for cards that have one dvi and one analog. Thinking about it now it doesn't make much sense. I'll just take myself off and give myselfa slap around the house!
I think that the flash was the prob cos I had the screens going fine with lots of gaming and mucking about for a few days and only after the flash did the probs appear. Maybe flashing with both connectors on did it? Has anybody else had a successful flash?
Still waiting on a reply from Matrox, so not much I can say until then.
