Resident Evil 4, known in Japan as Biohazard 4, is a survival horror third-person shooter video game developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and published by multiple publishers, including Capcom, Ubisoft, Nintendo Australia, Red Ant Enterprises and THQ Asia Pacific.

First hinted at in early December 1999, Resident Evil 4 underwent a long development time during which four proposed versions of the game were discarded. Initially developed for the PlayStation 2, the first attempt was directed by Hideki Kamiya after producer Shinji Mikami requested him to create a new entry in the Resident Evil series. Nevertheless, it was decided to start development over again.

Resident Evil 4 has garnered universal critical acclaim, averaging a score of 96 on Metacritic. It has received stellar reviews from various video game magazines and websites. The game was considered by most critics as a top contender for 2005's Game of the Year, and was seen as a successful crossover hit; the new gameplay alterations and immersive style appealed to many not previously familiar with the series.

== Screen change ==

This behavior is called "anamorphic."

== Aspect ratio support ==

Since you couldn't test 16:9 resolutions, note that here. You don't yet know if it's correct or not.

==Grading==

Calculated grade: C+
Potential grade: Certified

Major unresolved issues:
Are 1280x720 or 1920x1080 supported?
If so, how does 16:9 compare with 16:10?
Is 1280x768 supported?
Are 1280x800 and 1440x900 supported?

Minor unresolved issues:
None

16:9 just removes the black bars at the top and bottom which are present in 16:10 and 4:3

How do you know this? You didn't confirm that any 16:9 resolutions work.

Got this today... it's funny that a port so nerfed in so many areas (it doesn't even support a mouse, requires a gamepad) runs in widescreen SO well.

The game does not support 16:9 resolutions. I only get 1280x800 and 1680x1050. Kinda stupid since the game/cutscenes are done in 16:9.

Bye bye certification. But if there's an alternate solution for 16:9 res's, the grade could go up.

I think the game actually runs in 16:9 doesn't it? In 1680x1050 I get thin bars on top and bottom I am 99% sure... I'll check it later.

Yes, the viewing area is 16:9. That's already been established. It's 16:9 *resolutions* that are not supported, which is a bad thing for HDTV users.

I was just meaning it's odd to have the game display in 16:9 and not support the resolution.

You need to edit SetupTool.ini with the correct resolution and it works like a charm. No more black bars. (I use 1080p)

Can you:

A:
Provide detailed instructions on how to use 16:9 resolutions

B:
Provide comparison screenshots for 16:9 vs. 16:10?

The game will get silver certification if you can do this.

16:9 IT IS SUPPORTED

Post by rArcangel84 »

yes it is good news for HDTVs users like myself the way to do it is playing with the setuptool.ini located at your game root folder and edeting the following

Mode=0*
Type=0**
SizeX=1280
SizeY=720 (for 720p)

change the values for SizeX=, and SizeY= to any other costume resolution like 1080i (1920×1080) for example I might include screenies next time, as a side thought movies have no black bars at 1280x720 :wink:

* For Full Screen
** This means widescreen as in 0 for widescreen (16:10, 16:9) and 1 for normal screen (4:3),but for some reason if you live it at 1 it will still work, but it might bring glitches in the futre so change to 0

Got the game today and went ahead to do some screens. I made one for Cut-scenes, Ingame and Inventory 4:3/16:9/16:10 each.

The game itself didn't recognize my widescreen, so I had to set it in the .ini.

Thanks. Can you confirm or deny support for 1280x768? Make sure your system supports it before testing it.

And the following sections change as follows:

== Method ==

Native support for 16:10 resolutions. .ini solution for 16:9 resolutions.

== Supported resolutions ==

Confirmed: 1280x720 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 1920x1200
Unconfirmed: 1280x768

== Aspect ratio support ==

Anamorphic, 16:9 resolutions have no black bars.

The 0 and 1 for widescreen options is just a resolution selector for the launcher.

Anything wider than 16:9 crashes in fullscreen and shows a black screen windowed.
