Hi, I'm pretty new to widescreen gaming, I'm a CS:Source player, and played on 800x600 stretched till now, I tried playing at 960x600 with my new 19" Wide MAG screen (1440x900 native), but I keep seeing the game too weird, erm, how do I say this, it's like squashed, so like some rows in the screen are barely visible, really looking forward for an answer, I'm using a VGA input, if that is the problem, please tell me, or can I only play on my native res...
Forgot to mention, when playing on my native res, everything is just fine, except my fps, that's why I want to play on 960x600, should work really nice.
Plus I can play on 800x600 stretched, but I'm sure 960x600 will look much better.
I'm going to sleep now, hoping to see some good responses in the morning :)
Sorry for sounding stupid too :P

Thanks in advance! good night

- Amit.

You're not going to be able to use any resolution in CS:S (or any other game) if it's not available to you in Windows. There *is* a way to add custom resolutions to your drivers, but the method depends on what your video card is, and you'll probably need a DVI cable. You'll definitely want one, because you need DVI in order to do GPU scaling, and non-native resolutions are liable to look terrible if you don't use GPU scaling. DVI looks better anyway at all resolutions.

Alright, I just got myself a DVI cable, it's connected.

I can't see any non-native widescreen resolutions in CS:S...
You said I could play with lower widescreen resolutions with GPU scaling, so first how can I use those resolutions again (I could with analog but they looked terrible) and how do I use that GPU scaling you we're talking about earlier... I can't play with my native resolution because my system specs aren't good enough to run it stable enough so it's playable...

Looking forward to more helpful replies, thanks!

What's your video card? The method for adding custom resolutions depends on your video card (it's easier if you have an nVidia card).

Try other resolutions. I would recommend 1280x800.

Not sure I could run that as good... tried 1024x640 too, still blank, I'll try 1280x800 to see if atleast something works.
