I've found a working solution for SimCity4 (incl. RushHour & Deluxe). Change your windows shortcut to:
"C:ProgrammeMaxisSimCity 4 DeluxeAppsSimCity 4.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32 -f -intro:off
???

"C:ProgrammeMaxisSimCity 4 DeluxeAppsSimCity 4.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32 -f -intro:off
when i tried this line, there was no change of the FOV compared to the 1600x1200 setting. the stretch of the FOV and icons was still there. :-(

Of course. The game does not support native widescreen so all icons will stretch. I will check the game later tonight about the stretching. I thought it would be Vert -.

I was wrong on both counts. The widescreen is perfect.
Are you changing the shortcut to the game?
This is what I have
"F:SimCity 4 DeluxeAppsSimCity 4.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1200
1600x1200
1920x1200

second try

looks good.
i tried the line again, and it worked.
1680x1050
and no icon stretch.
in the optionmenu none of the standard-resolution is marked now,
every other option is on "high" and "full detail".
BUT: allthough i have the nvidia 8800 gts 640mb in a three day old gaming computer, the performance is really bad.
the game is from 2003 and a 2007 gaming-pc can't handle it.
i can't believe it! :-(

It should not be that bad. Are you moving the screen at max zoom? That is where it would be the most sluggish.
juggling ;-)

i'm using a middle high view (forced resolution 1680x1050),
not the closest one.
the houses are rather small,
but the scrolling is worse than 1600x1200.
i heard from several sources, that sim city 4 is badly programmed,
and even high-end-computers (not mine, mine is close to high-end;-))
can't get the game "juggling-free".
i guess, i won't get a better performance in the game.
- installing the deluxe version,
- patching it
- adding the resolution and intro:off in the command line
- and start playing
?!?

I use 1920x1200 and get a little stutter with scrolling. I have a 3800 single core with 2 gig of ram available for the game. Maybe the game is only optimized for single cores?
If it is that bad for you go ahead and post your specs. Maybe some things can be done for improved performance.

I used FRAPS for the framerate.
Closest zoom. Framrate around 25 while moving.
Next zoom. Around 20.
Next zoom. Around 15.
Next Zoom. Around 12.
Next Zoom. Around 32.
This game is known for being slow. I don't have the Settlers 6.

haven't tried the FPS yet, thanks for your scores.
I'll try it hopefully today.
Did the 3DMark06 Test yesterday:
8800 Points
Grafic-Tests look fine, slow down to 17 FPS sometimes but mostly around 25.
CPU test bad: 0 to 1 FPS.
Is my CPU or mainboard with chipset the "brake" in my system?
