Playstation 2 on a FPD2185W

I have a PS2 hooked up to my Gateway FPD2185W monitor with composite cables and the games look awful. It looks like 640x480 resolution and is quite bad. I have tried all 3 different display settings in the PS2 console (4:3, Full, 16:9) and have also set games to 16:9 where applicable.

In *compsite* mode on the monitor's OSD I have adjusted video scaling and adjustments but to no satisfaction.

Can someone please tell me if there is any way to make PS2 games playable with this monitor? If there was some way to reduce the resolution in composite mode ? I don't know.

Ps. I called Gateway Tech support to find an answer...the girl told me she didn't even know there was a composite mode ??!!?! So now I'm stuck trolling forums in search of an answer. Any help is appreciated....

*Sorry, I meant component*

The Gateway monitor has component inputs. You should use those. You may need to buy a PS2 component cable, but I know they exist.

Kerry, mm, well clearly you don't have a grip on things since you are complaining that it looks like crap, and yet you seek to lower the resolution.

Anyways, yes, the psx2 looks like crap on a high resolution lcd. I tried it on my 2005wfp when I got ff12. 640x480 combined with the motion blur effect square and other games like to use is just to low. Just gonna have to live with it on tv.

This is also why I think the nintendo wii should have atleast supported 720p. Sticking with 640x480 is just gonna look like ass when people start plugging it into their new HDTV's.

Clearly. I seek to lower the resolution of the monitor in component mode, instead of it trying to stretch a 640x480 playstation 2 image to it's native 1680x1050. If this is not possible, then just say so.
