Hi krytpo, welcome. :)

I'm interested in this title too. Does it support WS out of the box?

I couldn't glean any relevant info from the DS:1 FAQ -

Darkstar One Final?

Hi, Stretch. Thanks for the friendly welcome.

I have read rumors that some folks have run it successfully at the large flat panel widescreen rez of 1920x1200, but can't confirm. I have the 20.1" widescreens that run at 1680x1050, and so far, I am not able to find one person that's running it successfully at that rez. When selecting this native rez, for me, the game immediately crashes, and it appears that others are having the same problem.

I can, however, run the game at 1280x800, but as we all know, non-native resolutions for Flat-panels don't really look that great.

Darkstar One reminds me of the Privateer and Wing Commander series' of the 1990's. Never played Freelancer, but I guess it's a step forward from that also to some degree. It's all mission based. I was expecting some free-roam about the space station(s) and even inside my ship, but no dice (not yet anyways, only been in it for a few hours). It's almost bordering on arcade to me, run a mission, make money, upgrade your one ship (and one ship only). So far, not much beyond that.

I have sent a technical report via the game crash software send utility with the game, and also posted the issue in the DarkStar One forum.

We'll see how it pans out.

I was a big fan of Wing Commander IV...Ah, the good old days.. :) This game interested me quite a bit, b/c as you mentioned, it seems like something of a throwback to the space shooters of the mid-90's updated with a nice dose of graphical polish and streamlined gameplay. I watched a demo on Gamespot and It looked pretty cool overall. Although it is a bummer to hear that there is no free-roam I hear that the story is actually pretty good.

It would be awesome to get WS support, either through a patch or .config tweak. Thanks for taking the time to bring it to their attention.

Hi,

I just tested this game. It does support Widescreen resolution. I have a bug running it at 1680x1050, but 1440x900 work fine.

Just add the custom resolution in your video driver. It's not the best choice, but it work and it's not that bad looking.

I also tried 1680x1050. The game won't start and instantly gives an exception error.

Any updates on this matter? I literally just installed the game and my monitor is also 1680 x 1050. I'm going to start a game and then patch it with the 1.2 beta patch.

The 1.2 beta patch doesn't work either. Does anyone have an unofficial fix for this?

I'm running it at 1920x1200 and it works fine. Don't have beta patch installed.

Yeah, loads of people can run it at that resolution. It's just the 1680 x 1050 res that it doesn't like for some reason. I've added to the official "1680 x 1050 problem" thread on the Darkstar forum, and the devs are aware.

The admins on the forum keep saying that the devs are workingon a fix, but that patch will probably be out after I finish the game in 1360 x 1024 res.

Can someone post a Solution thread with some comparison screens and details on the solution method?

I know this an old thread but...

You CAN get Darkstar One to run in - get this - 1680 x 1049  . You have to set the custom resolution in your video driver's control panel. This also goes for the Steam version.
