Windowed mode - cheap way to avoid stretching?

Post by jsynnott »

Hi all,
would it be a feasible idea to run a non-widescreen game in windowed mode to avoid stretching? Would this give a big performance hit? I was thinking for example Battlefield 2.
Thanks.

I think it would be a lot more feasible to have your video card do aspect scaling.

Indeed that would be the perfect solution, but unfortunately ATi cards, while more powerful and cheaper than nVidia cards, dont support aspect scaling :(

The biggest problem to that would be that fewer and fewer games even support windowed modes.
