Matrox TH2G Question

This looks like a very neat product, as I am on the market now for a 24" LCD, it makes sence to pick up 3x19" LCD for about the same price and have more realistate.
The obviouse flaws are the borders between the monitors and that you have to run VGA isntead of DVI.
That aside, the office web site shows these flashy adds with games "standard" vs "surround gaming" but those pictures are not 100% fair I can tell that all they did was strech out the game for 3 monitors and then remove the 2 outer monitors to show the "standard" picture.
But since the HUD and some of the scenery had been altered for the 3 monitor image it makes it imposible for me to see just how much you gain with this setup, that and the aspect is very wide so for alot of games looks like your forced to loose alot of view infront of you to gain the stuff on the sides.
Can anybody give me abit more insight on this and a true comparison of "standard" vs "surround" without the unspoken modification to the standard aspect screenshot.
And for general purposes what pros/cons can you give me going with a very wide setup with 3 montiors vs say a 2407 with a 16:10.
edit: one more important question to add in, what happens if you try to use 3 high res monitors like say again the 2407 with the 1920x1200 native what happens when you try to pan out 3840 x 1024 across three of them? Lose the 176 vert pixels and have black bars there and also on the sides? or does it scale somehow?
or rather than wide screen (even tho its now supported) how would 1600x1200 scale with it as a norma 4:3 aspect?
