rFactor - I lost my triplehead resolutions

After getting a 7900GT and installing the latest nVidia drivers, 91.31, I seem to have lost the ability to selecting triplehead resolutions in the config utility for rFactor. If anyone has rFactor and can help and/or tell me how to manually input a game resolution, I'd be happy to hear it.

Hi jkeefe,
Look for a file called config.ini in the rFactor directory.
There should be a line in there called videomode=XXX
For the X's you need to enter one of these numbers
2400x600 = 133
3072x768 = 134
3840x1024 = 135
This should give you back your resolutions.

Thanks, Richie.
When I opened config.ini it said VideoMode=0 I changed it to =134, saved and closed, and restared the config app. Still no triplehead available. So then I realized that maybe I should just set the config and leave it, so I returned to config.ini, entered VideoMode=134, saved and closed, and started rFactor. It was running at 1280x1024.
You're defintiely onto something, though. :) Any more ideas?

Hi Jkeefe,
In that file what are the
MinimumVidRes and MaximumVidRes set to?
Mine are as follows
MinimumVidRes=(800, 600)
MaximumVidRes=(8000, 6000)

Mine are the same.

Hi JKeefe,
I just noticed that the Video Modes changed.
Try setting VideoMode to 147 and make sure that FSAA is off.

Will try 147 when I get home.
FSAA off in the config program, config.ini, or my video drivers?
And why off? I don't want it off. :)

Hi JKeefe,
To go back to my previous post, the numbers have changed because I have added the extra widescreen modes. Do you have these modes installed? If not then you do not need to change the number.
As for FSAA, on my system the game will not start with FSAA on for some reason (even without TH2Go). Make sure in the config.ini it's set to 0.
Are you also choosing 3072x768 16bit or 32bit ?
Last question :-) Where did you get the 91.31 drivers from? I could only find the 84.21 from Nvidia's site.

Hi RichieG,
There you go:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.31.html :)
I had all sorts of troubles with these newer drivers, so I went back to 84.21... :?

Hi MatroxRulez,
It's funny, when I go through the regular routine I am still brought to the 84.21 drivers ????
Thanks for the link :-)

I do have the extra modes installed. However, when I use VideoMode=147, the config utility runs when I start rFactor; it doesn't like that number and wants me to input a resolution in the config app.
Are you also choosing 3072x768 16bit or 32bit ?
Neither, as 3072x768 is not available in the config app, hence this thread. :) If it were available I would be selecting 32 bit, of course. I'm not about to run a 7900GT in 16 bit mode...

I just reinstalled the latest Matrox Triplehead2Go software and the problem persists; I am taken to the rFactor config automatically because it doesn't like my settings.
Incidentally, there are a whole lot of other resolutions missing from this list, including common ones such as 1280x960. All of these are available in Windows.

Well, I reinstalled Windows tonight (not because of this) and, not surprisingly, everything works fine now. 3072x768 is availabe in the config app.
However, 2 things are weird:
1. 85 Hz is not availabe as a refresh rate, only 75 Hz.
2. Config.ini says VideoMode=140.

Hi Jkeefe,
Well I am glad that you were able to get everything working again just sprry that it required a reinstallation of Windows.
140 is the right number for that mode as it is what I am getting here. 75Hz is the proper refresh rate when using that mode.

Ok... then why did you suggest VideoMode=147 :?:
75Hz is the proper refresh rate when using that mode.
The TMET is supposed to give me an 85 Hz refresh rate at 3072x768 in addition to 75 Hz. I would expect to see this listed as an available refresh in the rFactor config app.
How can I get an 85 Hz refresh rate at 3072x768? I use CRTs.

A related question: where can I find the table that lists all of the values for the VideoMode parameter?

Hi JKeefe,
There is no specific table. We found out the the game will enumerate a list based on the EDID of the monitor, so this list will change from system to system which is why 147 was right for me on my system.
We are looking for ways to maybe work around this in the SGU.

So did you just try numbers starting from 1, until you found that 147 worked? OR can you read the EDID and compile a list from that?
I suppose it doesn't matter. If everyone's list is different it's not really useful information. I'm just being curious.

Hi JKeefe,

No that would have taken forever :-) When we run the config for the game and choose the surround resolution, all I did after that was open the cfg file and see what number was listed.
From what I have seen the numbers in the SGU should remain idle but will change if you put the extra resolutions from our expander tool in (as you have seen)

ok, i just bought a 32" wide, i cant change the native values in the config file or the config program. the highest i can get is 1280x1024 which sucks.
all the option in the config program only list 800x600 to 1280x1024.
i change videomode but it keeps going back to 11 (1280x1024). how can i get the res to a decent wide screen!
