If it's not there, just create a file with the same name. Make sure that visible file extensions are turned on, or you won't be able to save it properly.

I have a moniter with a resolution of 1440x900.
Its a Hanns-G HW191D
Anyways, I tested out Civ 3 in 1440x900.
It works, though a few things I noticed, I will post with screenshots.

The game doesn't seem to move the boxes approprietly. You can see in the Cultural Advisor box.
The HUD doesn't seem to stretch.
One other thing I noticed.
http://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=civ3gamemenuvw4.jpg
Civ 3 puts bars in the left and right in certain menus. It did that in the city menu, Main menu, and Im sure there is others.
Hope this helps!

I don't understand what you mean by that.
>>The HUD doesn't seem to stretch.
Yes, I covered that in the report.
>>Civ 3 puts bars in the left and right in certain menus.
And the top and bottom too (if your horizontal res is higher than 768). I also covered that in the report.

Its not that it doesnt do it right, it just doesnt move the box over to the extra space, where I would of liked it to be, as you can see in this screenshot.

I picked up the Steam version of Civ III: Complete ("Complete" = the original plus some additional content from expansion packs).
I didn't locate a civilization3.ini anywhere in the /steamsapps/common/civ3 folder.
I tried creating one and simply adding in the bit of code mentioned here but to no avail. Can anyone report using this fix for the Steam version of the game?

From Civfanatics FAQ:
How can I get the game to run in a higher resolution?
By default, the game runs in a 1024x768 resolution. To get it to run in a higher resolution, navigate to your Civilization 3 folder (default: C:/Program Files/Infogrames Interactive/Civilization 3/ -- if you have PTW or C3C, go to that folder inside your Civ3 one), and open your .ini file (named Civilization3.ini for Vanilla, ptw.ini for Play the World, and conquests.ini for Conquests). Add a line at the bottom that says: KeepRes=1 . Now, when you load your game, it'll use your computer's default resolution.
Look for one of these ini files.

Many thanks, TMK.
Apparently the Complete version of Civ III actually runs the Conquests .exe.
I've confirmed the the config file called "conquests.ini" for the Steam version of Civilization III Complete is located in this folder:
C:Program FilesSteamsteamappscommonsid meier's civilization iii completeConquests
Simply adding the "keepRes=1" to that text file allows the bigger screen res.
Civilization III in surround

Tryed Civilization 3 (steam version) on my surround setup (5760x1080) and the game crashes. Adding:
Video Mode=1024
KeepRes=1
in conquest.ini does not help when in surround.
It does works if I return to single screen (turn off surround by choosing maximize 3D performance in Nvidia control panel) but switching from surround to non-surround and vice-versa takes many steps. Have you figured out a way to setup the game to run in surround without having to switch (or a painless way to switch from surround to non-surround!)?
