Battlefield 2: Special Forces?

Hey guys, every time I start up BF2:SF it crashes as soon as it goes to full screen. I have tried adding the additional text for the target, as I did in normal BF2, which worked fine, but BF2:SF wont work. Any help? Also, I can't seem to find a good resolution to play at. Any suggestions?
My BFS:SF target is this:
"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1920 +szy1200
is there something wrong in there?
My normal BF2 is playing at 1280 x 720.
When I go into in-game options, I cant change the resolution, my only option is 800 x 600, with different refresh rates.
Any help would be great, and if this is the wrong place to post, then I am sorry

Code: Select all
C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx1920 +szy1200
Try that, also I think there might be spaces after the " +szx "

Yeah ... you need spaced after the +syz ... it should read ...
"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
not ...
"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1920 +szy1200

I did the path that you guys suggested, it still keeps crashing after the splash. I'll tinker with it a bit more
Hrm, no luck. Would a reinstall maybe fix?
My BF2:SF one looks like this:
Code: Select all
"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
My normal BF2 one looks like this:
Code: Select all
"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 700
Neither will work :-/

"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050
Mine looks like that for special forces.

Okay, and how about your BF2 one? Do you need the BF2 one working for the SF one to work?

Okay, this is weird. It works if I use the "Play" button on the splash screen when you insert the disc.

Then I would have thought that means that there must be something wrong with the desktop shortcut ...
Try deleting it and making a new one ... :?

Ok, I reinstalled and the game is working fine. I went to the target to add +szx 1920 +szy 1200 with one space after the 1200 part. I ran the game, it crashed to desktop. I took away the added part, and it worked fine again...What am I doing wrong?

Try using maherie's shortcut target line above ... :?
May be it is the res that it doesn't like .... although I don't know why.

I was having this same problem.
I solved it by making a copy of my shortcut to regular BF2. Then I added +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 to the end after the lines for my custom resolution. It loads the custom res now instead of just crashing to desktop.

looking at the "fix" outlined here[
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6313] though it cuts out the top and bottom instead of actually giving you a better FOV ...

Problem with SF comes when you try to launch from out of the game. Vanilla BF2 launches first and then swtiches back to desktop and then loads SF - this second load drops the command line parametrs from the initial launch and any edit to a WS resolution in the various video config files causes a CTD. To do SF in WS (the cropped fake WS that is) you must use the command line parameters and launch to SF and then use the in game crappy browser to join a game.

I find if I start up the normal version, but then see a server with special forces, and click on it. It goes back to the desktop, loads special forces in 800x600. It's a pin, just have to be sure what one you want to play.

I found that I prefer just to play it in 1600x1200 with no stretch... black bars on the sides. That way the image is not distorted since Dice still doesn't have the widescreen patch yet.

Okay, I'll try that, but to make sure I understand:
Make a new shortcut to BF2, add the resoultion,
then add +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 ?

I don't know what to suggest now ... :?
If it is any consolation I don't like running the game with the cut down view that you get when using a widescreen res ... I just use a 4x3 res stretched ...
