Descent 3

I used the command line switches "-aspect 1.60 -width 1680 -height 1050" but to no avail. Though screenshots show up at 1680x1050 the actual viewing area remains at whatever is selected in the options screen (which happened to be 1280x960 in my case) and only mission text shows outside that area.
Any suggestions for getting proper widescreen and custom resolutions?

can you find the game .cfg or .ini file & change resolutions (& FOV?) in those?

This game still has a audience ? I used to play descent 3 till wee hours in the morning. Can you direct me to a site that might support descent 3 or community I may join? I just might reinstall it!

That whole Decent series ran incredible "back in the day" on my Voodoo 3 3000. I was visually blown away when piloting the ship

I am seriously thinking about a reinstall but I want to know some simple things like if it will run under XP and what if anything else needs to be done to successfully enjoy the game once again..
Mr. Sparkle where are you?

Stretch,
I have vertigo but it didn't get it with Decent - sure did after playing Need For Speed though
- or Deux Ex with the Player Wobble
- cripes I was staggering around like Gilly after a late nite at the pub or Tamlin on a New Year's cruise

Hi all, sorry for the delay.
Doug - the only .cfg file I could find was for multiplayer server settings, and there were no .ini files - it seems all advanced configuration is done through command line switches, and I know I'm doing it right because some other switches (e.g. for automatically loading a pilot on startup) work just fine.
Gonzo - Apart from the widescreen issue it runs perfectly on XP. The graphics are a bit on the old side but it's such a unique game there's nothing to compare it directly to. A friend of mine sold me 20 old (5-7 year old) games for 50 dollars, so that's how I just got a hold of it. As for community, http://www.descent3.com and http://www.planetdescent.com are both active.
I tried searching the forums there but to no avail. I suppose I should post this there too, but I noticed that Descent 3 is in the Master Game List so _someone_ on this forum must have gotten it to work.

I'm sure someone posted a site that had a way of getting it to widescreen; I never tried it myself, though...
*goes off to hunt*...

C'mon guys, the Master List says it works, so someone must know how.

Solution:
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=18127 (I realize this is resurrecting an ancient topic, but since this thread came up quite high on google, I figured it might be useful for people who stumble upon it to be directed to the answer.)

That widescreen trick has worked for me. Thanks a lot!
I did need several attempts however, because I'd overlooked the hint about the '+' key . :D
Has anyone tried Descent 3 from
http://www.dateiliste.com/en/descent-3/26-descent-3-installation-updates-and-modifications/120-download-the-full-version-of-descent-3.html?
I was wondering whether it's worth giving it a go. Not that I'm intending to play online but it's difficult to find additional missions otherwise. I'm only scared it would break my current installation. Everything on that site says it doesn't,
but... You never know.
