quake2max: does anyone know how to compile?

hey, I've edited the source files for quake2max .44 to include widescreen resolutions, but I don't own visual c++, nor do I know how to compile the code.
If I can convince somebody to compile this for me, then we'd all have access to a widescreen version of quake2max. Is anyone able to do this?

Query: what is Quake 2 Max?
I'm aware of the original, and of the 'Evolved' remake...

quake2max is another quake2 sourceport, like quake2evolved. Quake2max looks better though, IMHO.
the next version of quake2evolved looks pretty awsome, I mean the one with the bumpmaps and shadows and all. However, its not out yet, and its gonna probably require a pretty beefy graphics card. And it'll dramatically change the look of the game.
Quake2max looks great, while maintaining the basic look and feel of the game.

Need to register (and pay!) at FilePlanet to download Q2Max, which I'm not going to do.
There should be freeware C++ compilers available on the 'net, or failing that, they seem to be provided on the cover of PC Magazines quite frequently.
This link might be of some help...
