If want something fixed, you have to ask for it.
Please email the developers of Battlefield 2 at the address below. Put "Fix Widescreen Support in Battlefield 2" in your subject line, with a short, concise note stating the need to do so.
The more widescreen weenies they hear from, the more inclined they are to address this.

While I'm not personally interested, because I never intend to play BF2, I'll sticky this for a while so that others can spot it more easily. :) Given the length of the BF2 thread, I think we can say that it should be a pretty popular idea. ;)

I agree. I took a look at this game and its one I would buy if it supports widescreen.
EA games have a lot of good games. They should be shown by everyone who loves widescreen gaming that their games would be more attractive with this implemented natively. :D
I am sending them a mail too!

One thing to remember is that we know a patch can be used to add support - it was done with Doom 3. Remember, be nice, and be concise with what you want. The also have phone numbers in Canada and Sweden - http://global.dice.se/contact/ Does anyone know if Dice or EA has a forum we can post to?
I also added this to the RSS feed, so hopefully more people will see it.

I posed here ...

EA's site admin responded ...
If you post constructive feedback here it will reach the developers, I can promise you that. I wasn't aware that the command line option to change resolution messes with the FOV when you use a widescreen res. I'll pass this one onto the developers.
So get over there and add your
constructive 2 cents/pennies ... ... let em know just how many of us want this.

its only good for the industry, think about it, when HDTV comes out as the only screen you can buy then they will have to be widescreen. And then the developers have an obligation to make the games widescreen too :P

I thought that mandate was only going to be for televisions and broadcasting.

But then everyone will leave the forum and my dreams of making rich off a website will be broken. :(

I would like to make a little, especially considering all the hours I put into moderating and coding on the site. (My wife would like for me to have something to show for it.)
Actually, I spend between $25-$75 on the site each month, to pay the server bills and buy games to hack or giveaway. If bandwidth usage keeps growing, due to more members, then that will go up to $50-$100 a month. I was hoping to recoup that through the donations and the merchant links and stuff (and maybe some t-shirts or mouse pads in the future), but as of now, no.
I have no delusions that I could ever quit my job or anything, but it would be nice to get a little pocket change to buy a few new toys now and then.
But, if I did make a little, would that be considered a bad thing?

Course not. Perhaps you should look into more vigorous advertising, or perhaps some sponsorships.

Mailed Dice. This has to come into this wonderful game.
It is funny that a thread like this is needed... because i actually mailed dice on the 20th of april, before the game got out, if this game would support widescreen... check this:
-----
Dear Robert,
Thank you for your mail.
Widescreen will not be supported in Battlefield 2.
Kind regards,

Subject: Quick BF2 question
Hello Dice,
I’ve got a a quick question regarding BF2.
Will the game properly support widescreen TFT panels? My eye has fallen on a monitor that can handle 1920x1200 resolution, but I’m hoping it will give me extra view instead of stretching a 1600x1200 view (for instance).
Regards,

At the time, i figured editing some file would work okay enough, but this much restriction i never would've thought.
And here is the message i wrote to Dice concerning this thread, if someone needs to use a template for his/her own email:
Hello,
As a widescreen TFT screen user (Dell 2405 FPW 24â€Â
