Rome total war ..preference file keeps rewriting itself?

everytime the game loads it changes the values in the .txt file.

any ideas?

try making it read only?

The battles are widescreen for me but the stratergy wont play in 1280x720 even with read only it ignores it and puts it back to normal :cry:.
