Conclusive 5040 fix for all nVIDIA users !
Re: Conclusive 5040 fix for all nVIDIA users !
what you talking about willis? the newest update allows for 59hz instead of the 57hz? im going to guess that even if this is the case that people with monitors that need 60hz to show stuff will still have the same amount of difficulty?

nope, almost every monitor can run at 59Hz. Every monitor i've tried works in 59Hz.

Re: Conclusive 5040 fix for all nVIDIA users !
no need for 57hz anymore, 59 is OK just update your matrox...
Well... Not according to Matrox.
Below is my email correspondence with Matrox support (Last reply at top)
Hi Jonas,
There is no compatibility chart since the same monitor model can use two or more different LCD panels in production and because of this have varying results.
My suggestion is to get a brand name monitor with DVI input from a store with a good return policy and then when you test one you can order the other two.

Sorry. The monitors are vga only.
It seems to me I need to buy new monitors again.
Can you send me a monitor compability list and perhaps also put it on the product page on your site?
/Jonas
---
Then your option is to try using DVI cables to your monitors to see if this would help and you can also try using different ?graphic card drivers since this will also play a role in how the signal is received by the unit.

Yes. The setup works in 3x1440x900@60Hz
/Jonas

Hi Jonas,
The 5040x1050@57Hz will have different timings and affect your monitors differently then each individual display running 1680x1050@57Hz when connected directly to your graphic card.
Can you confirm for me if you run 3x1440x900@60Hz does the setup work?

Hi.
No it is not a limitation of my monitors.
As I stated before. I carefully tested each and every one before buying them to see if they were able to handle the resolution of 1680x1050 at 57 hz.
And according to an earlier answer from tech support "Now the way you connect to your monitors should work either way VGA or DVI "
Let's say for the sake of argument that my monitors are at fault. Which monitors DO work? Is there a monitor compability list available?
/Jonas
---
Hi Jonas,
5040x1050 will not be supported at 60Hz and some monitors have an issue with this.
Also you should be using DVI connections to your monitors to minimize this possibility.
If you can run your screens at 3x1440x900@60Hz and everything works fine then this is a limitation of your monitors.

Th2g box is connected to the computer with a dual-link dvi cable.
The screens are connected to the th2g box with three vga cables + adapters.
Using latest powerdesk and fairly new nVidia drivers.
Yes, I am able to select 5040x1050 in my windows display properties. I can also choose between 57, 59 and 60 Hz. None of them works.
/Jonas
---
Hi Jonas,
Are you connecting using DVI cable we provided and you are able to select a resolution setting of 5040x1050 in your windows display properties?

Hi again.
Ok I've now bought 3 new monitors (1xSamsung syncmaster 225bw and 2xsamsung syncmaster 2043nw) all successfully tested individually in 1680x105@57hz.
But when I try to go triple mode. Same result as before. All screens displays 1280x1024@57.
What's wrong now?

Hi Jonas,
This information is available on our website:

click the ling to view the complete list.

Why can't I find a note on the product page stating it the maximum refreshrate at maximum resolution is 57hz?
Or a monitor compability list?
I guess the only option left is to throw away the recently bought monitors and use the old ones.
/Jonas
---
Hi Jonas,
The DVI connection between the computer and the unit is required.
Now the way you connect to your monitors should work either way VGA or DVI but some monitors will have problems syncing to the lower refresh rate of that resolutions setting so that is why the monitors interpret the resolution as 1280x1024. It is not something we can change since that refresh rate at the highest resolution setting is limited by the capabilities of the hardware.
Hope this clears things out.

Ok. As I mentioned in the other request I do have a Dual link DVI-cable between the the unit and the computer.
It's between the unit and the monitors I use vga-cables + adapters.
Any suggestions?
/Jonas
---
Hi Jonas,
Because the resolution is running 1680x1050 at ~58Hz monitors might have problems syncing to this signal correctly in VGA mode.
From the unit to the computer the DVI connection is a must to get these high resolutions working.

Re: Conclusive 5040 fix for all nVIDIA users !
Hi Guys!
I am wondering is all this manipulation only for getting 60Hz instead of 57Hz? Or additionary to 60Hz we finally can use last Nvidia drivers (19x.x instead of 18x.x)???
P.S.: My english is really poor - that is why I am asking :D

Both.
You get both 59Hz and newest Nvidia drivers.

Re: Conclusive 5040 fix for all nVIDIA users !
Same method working and, alas! still required with 197.41 (GTX480) in Win7 x64.
Only improvement: no need to search for the right frequency. 59.400Hz worked right away, while I had to use 59.350 or even 59.354 with previous drivers (and a GTX285).

I would have saved the bold/colored text for when 5040 works right out of the box (again), but... Ah well.

5040x1050 running DX10 and DX11 on windowed mode yes (except some games like Resident Evil 5, Metro 2033 and Red Faction Guerrilla), on full screen no.
Games that i succesfully play at 5040x1050 DX10 and DX11 on windowed mode :
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
STALKER Call of Pripyat (DX11)
STALKER Clear Sky
Just Cause 2
Far Cry 2
Gears of War

Re: Conclusive 5040 fix for all nVIDIA users !
Hola, everyone.
Thank you for providing this community. I've used the THTG for several years without a problem in WinXP with 3 Samsung SyncMaster 225BW monitors at a res of 5040x1050. I use my computer for recording music and for gaming. The main game I play is World of Warcraft.
Recently, I decided to upgrade my machine to Win7 Pro 64 bit. Using the instructions in this thread, I was able to continue using the 5040x1050 resolution.
The problem I have is with World of Warcraft. In the graphics-setup page of the game, the resolutions that are listed are those that are listed in the Matrox PowerDesk tool. The PowerDesk tool doesn't list my 5040x1050 mode; however, the nVidia control panel does.
PowerDesk version: gxm_2_07_00_031_whql
THTG firmware version: THD_u015_v2.3.40.t6.56.exe
nvidia version: nvidia_gts250_258.96_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql

I had a similar problem when upgrading to Win7. Using a previous version of PowerDesk (2.05 or 2.06) resolved the problem for me. PowerDesk 2.07 simply refused to acknowledge many resolutions (even though they showed up in the nVidia control panel)
Good luck!
Heh. I got TH2G mainly to WoW.

Re: Conclusive 5040 fix for all nVIDIA users !
I finally resolved the problem by using an older version of the PowerDesk software. Here are the additional steps I took.
- Use the latest nvidia driver for Win 7 64 bit
nvidia_gts250_258.96_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql
- Use the latest Matrox Firmware: Matrox_Firmware_THD_u015_v2.3.40.t6.56
- Use an older version of PowerDesk. I choose the following which worked with Win 7 64 bit:
ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/archive/GXMVEOS/2009/v64_gxm-veos_2_06_00_026_whql.exe
- Follow the instructions at the beginning of this thread and use the aforementioned versions of software.
