Alright done. I made separate versions for both 3.333 and 3 on both Doom 3 and ROE.
Your both insiders so I would like to direct you to my folder in the uploads directory on the FTP server. The zips are in there, if they work let us know so we can get them hosted and linked up properly.
EDIT

OK once I had mastered the technique of 'FTP-Fu' (thank you Mobster Sensei!) I did the following on a clean install of Doom3.
1. Changed the Config file:
a) seta r_aspectRatio "1"
b) seta r_mode "-1"
c) seta r_customHeight "1050"
d) seta r_customWidth "5040"
2. Replaced the game00.pk4, game03.pk4 and gamex86.dll in the base folder with the new mobster 3.33333 version. Also tried the 3 version
3. Run the game. All I get is a totally grey screen, so where am I mucking it up??
Do I need to replace the entire base folder or maybe I have missed something?
EDIT: same all grey screen if I replace my entire config file with the one supplied

I'm going to assume that you put all the files in the correct location yes?
And that you did a dry run of the game were you actually started a new game and then exited; before trying to mod anything, yes?

Ok more info.
The game starts to menu screen (I haven't actually played anything just trying to get the menu at 5040) in 1920x1200
With everything as normal apart from the config file changed to custom res and 5040x1050 it still gets the grey screen. the screen is there during the intro movies and into when you at the menu (I can hear the sound OK)
The files are in ...N:Steamsteamappscommondoom 3base

It might have something to do with the resolution. I tried the modded for triplewide .pk4 files (the ones with 3, not 3.333). I still ran it at 3840x1024 for obvious reasons though. After grabbing a screen I stretched it with photoshop and overlayed it with what it normally looks like for me.
And I'm not sure why there is no HUD in the screencap of triplewide. I went back to check after I noticed it was not there and it is indeed working.
About the gray screen thing. Its there for about half a second when I start the game, then its just fine. I miss it sometimes if I lose concentration and blink.

Yeah it must be the res. With nothing changed apart from a custom 5040 res set it still totally greys out (dude).
Oh well Scav might have better luck!

No luck I'm afraid :(
-First, I get a "wrong game DLL API version" error message with your files... Guess the CD version of D3 patched to v1.3 needs proper files ?
-Second, I removed your files and tried with my old cfg file + paddy's dll, and everything's grey (including the "id logo" intro video) at 5040x1050.
So I tried different TripleWide resolutions, here's what I found :
5040x1050 : grey.
4320x900 : grey.
4098x768 : grey.
3840x800 : no more gay grey, so I can play.
So yes, aspect ratio aside, it seems we have a resolution issue.

Well, I made these files with the steam version of Doom 3 and ROE. I think that we shouldn't rule out that the moded files are specific to the steam version and wont work with the CD or DVD installed versions.
Remember that the "wrong DLL api version" error also happened when we tried to use the older files that you made for the CD or DVD version Paddy? I think its the same case here.
Mach1.9pants, could you try running the game at 3840x1024 but with the modded files for triplewide? If we can at least get the proper aspect ratio its a step in the right direction.
Scavvenjaa if you could send me all the files that need modding. I could dive in with Hex Editor or whatever and see if I can do the same thing with them that I did with the steam version files. Basically your gamex86.dll and any .pk4 files with gamex86.dll in them.

Yeah, good point, I'm on Vista64. I sure should reinstall the TH2G and Doom3 under XP and give it a go... if only I had reasons to think it'd be worth the effort...
Here are my files :

Umm I am a bit crap at this, but using the 3xWS files in 3840x1024 look a bid odd anyway???
Edit: the 'umm' wasn't sarcastic BTW it is just what I wrote! Just read back now and it looks a bit rude, sorry :)
