No reason to get a Matrox now?

Post by suiken_2mieu »

Samiad, thank you for your detailed answer.
Funny enough, I had already ordered a 5870, but canceled it.
As long as CF is not working, there really is no need to enable such high resolutions while the power is lacking to support them.
Also, bezel management isn't yet implemented. Third, getting an active adaptor in Europe is either very complicated or rather expensive.
That's why I got a cheap 4870x2 from eBay for now. (I might get a 5870x2 though, but I assume it will take ATI a while to make them widely available.)
I guess I will just risk it and go for the TH2G for now.
Again, thanks for enlightening me!
Well still all is not lost, you can use SoftTH and get the most out of your monitors. You may need another lowend card to connect the third. But I've seen more and more games be available for use on SoftTH.

SoftTH will work, and has been getting better every release. The problem is, every game has to be manually configured and it only works with DirectX games.

having used both Th2g for awhile and got the eyfinity for a short time.

anyone interested in me doing a write up on the comparison?

I don't think Matrox is out the door yet.

No definitely not.

In fact, I'd like to think keeping the TH2Go might allow me to continue to enjoy three screen gaming in the future, whatever the GPU I buy next (nVidia or otherwise) - but this is all in the hands of Matrox and nVidia/ATi to provide continued support. It doesn't seem to be a particularly trivial endeavour either :(

I should clarify, my 'no definitely not' is in response to the "I don't think Matrox is out the door yet", as opposed to the "anyone interested in me doing a write up on the comparison".

Where's this report?

I was about to purchase the TH2Go, but just then ATI Eyefinity was coming out in 2 weeks so I waited and went that route, so I don't know if I made the right decision or not.

So far after having Eyefinity for 1 week, I have to say it is nice, but I think I was expecting a bit more, seems to me that even though I'm using 3-mons at 1680x1050 that all FSX does is zoom in that resolution and fits into the 5040x1050, if that makes any sense to what I'm trying to say.

So please give us that review of TH2Go vs Eyefinity

Thanks,
Deke

If you're seeing zooming effects, I'm fairly sure that you'd be seeing it with TripleHead, too.

Anyway, geniv... where's that comparison, then? ;)

I'm fairly new to the whole TH2G affair.
I did some research on what resolutions are supported by ATI cards, but specification change so fast that I'm unsure what the current standing is.
I'll be using a 4870x2.
Now is 5040x1050 supported on that card, or is not? If not, will it be?
Thank you!

Got my TH2G:
It works! Yeah! :D
