^^^
All this is obsolete.

Use this: http://imk.cx/pc/widescreenfixer/
Works with Punkbuster too; even semi-officially up to a certain version.

In the spirit of a double post, can anyone confirm this fix? Has anyone tried it?

Can someone PLEASE explain how to get this working. The readme.ini that comes with the compressed package wins "Vageuness of the Year" award.

readme.ini?

I think the instructions are easy enough.

Let me quote it in case you never read it:

Usage:
------
For Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142, edit the shortcut and add:
+widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 (or whichever widescreen resolution you use)

1) Start Widescreen Fixer.
2) Select the game you'll be running.
3) Select the aspect ratio of your monitor.
4) Start the specific game.
5) Use ; (or whichever hotkey you set) to enable or disable.

Which step are you getting stuck or confused on?

That's the bit that is not explained well. How do you set a hotkey?

That is directly below the Usage section in the readme.

Hotkey Usage:
-------------
Starting with v1.40, you can set a hotkey in the wsf.ini file. The key you
wish to use must be in regular integer format. Here are some simple
instructions to get started:

1) Start Widescreen Fixer.
2) Exit Widescreen Fixer (This creates the wsf.ini file).
3) Edit the wsf.ini file.
4) Modify the Hotkey= field of the wsf.ini file.

To start off, the default semi-colon hotkey is 186 (0xBA).
If you would like to use the asterik instead, set the number to 106 (0x6A).

So you should have this if you want to user the asterik:
Hotkey=106

The application must not be running when you make the changes or it will over-
write any change you made when you exit.

There's an included Hotkeys.txt that give you the numbers for the most common keys.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

so basically with this fix, one can play BF2 (including mods?) in correct AR and FOV, without being kicked by PB?

nope even with the hack nothing but normal WS res, I am afraid. The reason why I have 3x24", some games just won't TH so 24" single screen is not a bad alternative!

Yeah, the Battlefield engine does not handle TH well. It stops rendering objects, buildings, players, etc. Eventually it will flip the view upside-down. It's not pretty.

Upside down? Weird.

Next iteration: Battlefield 1943.

We need another world war to get a fresh batch of games. This WW2 thing is sooooo tiresome.
