For 1280x800 people: Just run it in a window at 1280x768. You can fit the window to your screen width by centering it and the height works well with the windows' titlebar.
These are the settings I use on my Mobility 9600 (oc 420/230) 64MB.
I think I have it working following UObean's instructions above. I just got my 2005FPW today and all I can say is WOW!
I have an ATI 9800 Pro and I don't really know how to add a custom resolution to it. So - I downloaded the PowerStrip utility and ran that to add a 1600x1024 resolution. I had to try a couple of the ones in PowerStrip before it would work. The one that finally did was labelled 1600x1024p (SGI).
Set my monitor to maintain aspect ratio and edited the .ini file to set that resolution. Ran it and it I think worked perfectly! Looks awesome, the text and menus look fine and the conversation options all work right.
The only downside I see w/ this set up is that I have to keep PowerStrip running or it won't work. Does anyone know how to add a custom resolution to the ATI drivers?
You could try using rage3d radeon tweaker. It integrates into the Radeon drivers. Its been a while since I've used a Radeon card though so I don't know if this utility supports the newest drivers.
UObean:
Ihave tried your technique of creating a custom desktop, but when adding the resolution 1600*1024 it just says it cant be done.
Also tried playing around with that ini file, but with no luck...
Any ideas?
Its a MSI Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64MB, Dell 2005FPW, and 65.73 Nvidia drivers
There is no way you can run that resolution with that hardware to begin with. The best widescreen resolution that you might be able to run is 1280x768. Try using that but remember to center output in your nvidia drivers. This is very important otherwise it won't work. Also having your desktop run at the exact resolution that you are trying to game with is the only way I got it to work.
worked at treat!!! thanks.
only problem now is i have a slight black boarder around the edge of the picture, but thats no trouble.
wonder why it doesnt work with 1680x1050???
I think what is actually happening is that we are just combining two different 4:3 resolutions that are supported. We're using the horizontal of 1600x1200 and the vertical of 1280x1024. What I find weird is that the character models don't appear to be stretched, just the menus. Since 1680 and 1050 are not supported in other resolutions it won't work with them. Thats the same reason 1280x800 won't work but 1280x768 will. As to why they didn't just support that resolution outright, my opinion is that they're just lazy.

I'm doing this from memory since I'm at work now. I'll try to put more detailed steps up tonight when I get home.
1) Download PowerStrip and install it.
2) Run PowerStrip and add a custom resolution. Pick the predefined 1600x1024 (SGI) resolution and add it. You'll probably have to restart (PowerStrip will tell you this). Make sure PowerStrip is still running after you restart.
3) Using the monitor OSD, tell it to maintain aspect ratio for smaller screens.
4) Change your windows resolution to 1600x1024.
5) Edit the .ini file and set width to 1600 and height to 1024.
6) Play away!
I don't remember whether or not I actually had to do step 4 in windows but I don't think hurts.
Hope that helps.
Ted
PS: I also had to add some option to the .ini file to get the Dantooine (sp?) planet to work without freezing up. Don't remember what it was but it didn't have anything to do with the wide screen stuff.
Following the suggestion above, I can play at 1600x1024 fine on my desktop. I still cannot make it work at 1280x768 on my laptop. Seems like the game is using the correct resolution but screen is centered at 1024x768 and cut off at the right side. No matter what I do, I cannot make the game to display full 1280 pixel even though the screen resolution is at 1280 pixel.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I've got a question that sounds kind of odd, considering all the effort going into running KOTOR II in Widescreen mode.
I'm doing some temp. testing and last night KOTOR II ran in a windowed mode, and I could watch temps as I played. I made some hardware changes, but now I only get full screen....and can't figure out what was hapening that allowed it to run in a windowed mode.
if you go to your game folder and open swkotor2.ini with notepad then you can change the fullscreen option.
There are two entries for fullscreen, one is for the menus at start, and the other is for gameplay.
Change the 0 to a 1 and away you go.
Thanks for all the tips but this doesn't appear to work correctly. I've set a custom resolution in the nVidia drivers section of 1600x1024 and have both display option lines in the swkotor2.ini like so
but the thing is the game plays in 1600x1200, I didn't notice at first until I watched a DVD and set it to display "Aspect" then came back to Kotor2 and saw that it was sqaured with a black frame. The .ini file still says 1600x1024 but the game plays at 1600x1200. For all the people who think they're playing at 1600x1024 try setting your display to aspect or even looking at what it says the resolution being displayed is in the monitor option.
Wogg is back and working on new games for the UniWS patcher. I sent him SW:KOTOR 2 to work on. He is the author of the SW:KOTOR patch. I hear it uses the same engine, so hopefully it won't take long.
PS - I know this is a cross-post, but I'm the Admin. :-) Anyway, there are multiple threads, and different people may be "watching" different ones.
