I sure hope there is something different and the tool gets updated, because I am surely not the only one with the downloader edition.

I recommend everyone visit THIS THREAD and post a request that DICE make a push for native support in the 1.5 patch due to come out soon.
There is a glimmer of hope as the DICE rep there says:
I mean, if the original developer can get it done, why not right?

It won't be there for the Beta but its not ruled out for being added in time for final release.

I know that we know what the widescreen support is (or isn't)...but do you still need someone to make a basic detailed report?

has anyone tried the 1.50 patch? it's friggin huge! but does it truly fix the widescreen issue or not? and how many of you people are still playing this game? i was thinking about reinstalling it again.

I see nobody has tested the 1.5 beta for BF2. I guess that means most of us are going to be playing with it when it's finally out? They have finally set a date and it's going to be Tuesday (Sept 1, 2009) and it's going to come with Euro Force and Armored Fury as free for all ancient players. (Maybe now people can actually continue playing instead of being kicked off when a Booster map comes up.)
Hopefully we'll get some info when the patch is finally out.

Re: Battlefield 2 Widescreen - Definitive Discussion Thread
I can confirm the latest Battlefield 2 patch (version 1.5) "fixed" the widescreen issues. Although the main menu and some HUD bars are stretched, and not in "proper" view. :o
@Deusfaux: I think you need to post comparison screenshots. I do have three screenshots (two in-game session and one main menu) sitting on the PC, but I assume WSGF folks demand for comparison screenshots for confirmation. :D
Edit: Since I have the pictures, I might as well showcase them here

Ya for sure/I'm new to the Widescreen Fixer, but I've been playing BBC2 with native
Eyefinity from the get go. I can't see the need for a "fix" on this game. Mine seems to work fine.
But for sure MW+ others need it. Widescreen Fixer is great.

the fix was because bf2 didnt support widescreen natively till the last patch. you had to tweak things to work in widescreen before then
