I loaded it up the game today and to my surprise the game was making full use of my 21:9 monitor.

http://imgur.com/a/pvkms

The game however reverted back to 16:9 after I exited out to see what could have caused it. I might have triggered a glitch of some sort to cause the black bars to not appear as normal. While the game was running in 21:9, there was no visible glitching or framerate problems.
Anyone else experience this?

We need our lord and savior Hayden to come forth and deliver us from the tyranny of forced 16:9 gameplay!

Right, perhaps he's waiting for his tithe, and we need to all pony up and get him some of that sick Alphadraft scrilla.

Reference game incredibly on point. :twothumb:

Yep, I just loaded up the game, however I decided to change my resolution to 1920x1080 from 2560x1080 and it started rendering the game in 21:9, but within the 16:9 window (unfortunately I didn't think to get any screenshots of that). But when I changed the resolution back to 21:9, it stayed in ultrawide but filled the screen as it should, and I was able to enjoy a few minutes of Dark Souls 3 in glorious ultrawide.

However, it didn't stay that way and I haven't been able to replicate what happened, whether it was a glitch or something else.

Guys, please, someone, anyone out there. I beg of you.
Please find a way to help kill these god awful black bars.
Or in the least point me in the direction of how one would or could get into the game files to at least poke and prod.
The guy on steam, I don't want to say is a lost cause..but he is starting to make it clear how the 21:9 fix isn't the real reason behined his mod, so any type of progress in that area would most likely take a backseat to whatever the hell the original point of his mod was in the first place.
Again. I'm not trying to be a pain or repeat myself.
But please. Anybody. I will gladly and PROMPTLY donate 200$ bucks into your PayPal in the blink of an eye for this fix. No b/s.

Patience buddy :)

Its being worked on, Kaldaien is on it and 21:9 is on his list of to dos, in the process of getting there though he has stumbled on a number of other issues which need fixing first to get to the aspect ratio fix AFAIK.

Its harder than anticipated though and these guys work on these fixes outside of their FT job etc.

Paypal donate for sure, because they do the job lazy developers dont. My hats off to Kaldaien, HaYDen and Helifax.

The like of Acer etc who manufacture 21:9 monitors should be thankful to them, without them I am sure that the growth of 21:9 wouldnt be anywhere close to where it is.

I for one would not have purhased at 21:9 if I wasnt aware of FW and WF etc.

Can't optimize to 2560x1080 :(
i've made this options in SoulsUnsqueezed.ini

Code: Select all

[SUS.Display]
HUDResX=2560
HUDResY=1080
HUDOffsetX=-320
HUDOffsetY=0

And ingame was

Code: Select all

<config><ScreenMode>FULLSCREEN</ScreenMode>
<Resolution-WindowScreenWidth>2560</Resolution-WindowScreenWidth>
<Resolution-WindowScreenHeight>1080</Resolution-WindowScreenHeight>
<Resolution-FullScreenWidth>2560</Resolution-FullScreenWidth>
<Resolution-FullScreenHeight>1080</Resolution-FullScreenHeight>

Ingame picture stratched to 2560x1080, but still got black borders :(
Where is my error?

Can't read is your error.

He wrote: To mitigate some display scaling problems that many are having, I have opted to release 0.0.1 without the promised aspect ratio features

Maybe in his next update we will get full 21:9 support.

He posted 12ish hours ago saying he needs a couple more days to nail down an initial release on a 21:9 fix.

Huh...this is most likely nothing, BUT for some reason GeDoSaTo seems to be working with dark souls 3?! It's recognizing the game, and the bare minimum of changing resolutions in GeDoSaTo are actually working and being applied to the game.
I thought it was never updated for directx11 support?
I'm going to full around with it more tonight, but I'm just throwing this out there for anyone interested in throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks.

I've tried my best to withstand this game at 16:9 but I can't take it, the FOV is just too limiting. Really hoping we'll get a fix soon. Can't believe it's 2016 and we still have this shit.

You can try this for 2560 x 1080:

1) HEX
Find this HEX string:

Code: Select all

800700003804

Change it to:

Code: Select all

000A00003804

2) WINDOWED mode
Make the game run in windowed mode, either going in game settings or change the GraphicsConfig.xml
Entering resolution to 2560 x 1080
(C:\Users\YourNAME\AppData\Roaming\DarkSoulsIII)

3) Use Borderless Gaming
Get rid of window borders.

// The .EXE is too big to bother uploading it
// I don't know how safe is to play ONLINE with this. So it's up to you.

// I find out that there's a catch, the game isn't optimized for 21:9, when you look at some enemies out of the 1920x1080 frame, you will see their animations stutter pretty much like the border frames of 2560x1080 are running at 10 FPS :D

OK it's strange, first I found out when I ported to Farron Keep Perimeter, there is a sequence when two Darkwraiths are coming to fight the other enemies near entrance to the Abyss Watchers. And for these enemies I've seen the stutter animations, out of the 1920x1080 frame. So I start to look for other things, but so far no problems with other creatures, npc, world animations.

EDIT: Too slow, but don't want to delete the whole text. took me some time

Okay here we go. In the comment section under Souls Unsqueezed in steam forum someone explained in pieces how to get rid of the black bars. This method worked now 3 times in a row for me (load game, close game, start again, and so on)

(description is for 21:9 2560 x 1080)

( not needed - modify your ds3.exe and replace 398EE33F with 26 B4 17 40 (already known from other games))

- modify your ds3.exe and replace 800700003804 with 000A00003804 (this will make possible to set 2560 x 1080 in window mode. without the change you can only set it to 1920 x 1080)

- modify your GraphicsConfig.xml (appdata - roaming - dark souls III) to:

<config><ScreenMode>WINDOW</ScreenMode>
<Resolution-WindowScreenWidth>2560</Resolution-WindowScreenWidth>
<Resolution-WindowScreenHeight>1080</Resolution-WindowScreenHeight>

- download "windowed borderless gaming" and install it OR you can set your GraphicsConfig.xml to read only and change to fullscreen later in game options

- start dark souls 3, it should start in window mode. check in options if the resolution is set correct ( http://i.imgur.com/T9zWu1U.jpg )

- load your game (you should see some flickering image on the right side while the item descrition is displayed)

- it should now load without the black bars.

- click your windowed borderless gaming icon in your task bar. add window, click back to dark souls 3 and press f3 OR as mentioned, set the game in options to fullscreen.

game should be now in fullscreen without any black bars

testet it right now before posting a fourth time and it loaded again without black bars.

EDIT: DSR works as well. When you set your GraphicsConfig.xml to read only and don't use "windowed borderless gaming" to "force" fullscreen you can set your game to fullscreen in options an choose whatever resolution you want to. If the game is started without the black bars, the bars won't come back until you restart it, independent which resolution you are choose

You DO NOT need to modify the bits for UWD.

Code: Select all

- modify your ds3.exe and replace 398EE33F with 26 B4 17 40 (already known from other games)

Hello, i don't know how to replace this string, when i try to paste "000A00003804" to the old one, nothing happen.

Just write the sequence on keyboard when you have the 80 selected. What program are you using for editing?

This: "Hex Workshop Hex Editor (64 bit)", but i seen now that i need this for 3440x1440 and not for 2560x1080, there is a string for 3440?
