It's a bit late but here's my experience with the game in Eyefinity.

HUD elements are not centered. I didn't look up info on it and it wasn't a bother for me since we're all playing with an early code base. I can only hope that they have that rectified in the gold code.

Let's see... framerates? Resolution for me is 5040x1050 (1680x1050x3). At first, it ran kinda sluggish. But I went into the video options and toned down some of the settings. Once I had motion blur turned off (or set to 0, dunno which one really works), anisotropic filtering to off, and the HBAO effect off, everything was fairly smooth. Keyword being fairly. I'll have to set fraps to run in benchmark mode so I can log the min, max, and average. So far, so good. I like the visuals. Day 1 started really terrible for me. Random disconnects and timeouts from servers. But Day 2 was much better and managed to get in several rounds without a disconnect. I'm not liking how loading a new map puts the game window back to windowed mode. Annoying but unrelated anyway.

Hardware spec: Intel i7 2600K @ 3.7GHz, 16GB RAM @ DDR3-1600, Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P, 2 XFX 6950 2GB XXX Edition in Crossfire.

No screenshots. I'm dying too much and too stressed out on staying alive to bother taking one. :)

btw... do we have comparative screenshots yet? I forgot if any of y'all have managed to get any. If not, I'll see what I can do on trying to take some.... if the server can actually stay empty long enough! :)

Are there any

Post by HaYDeN »

Are there any card's/SLI/Crossfire mixes that are performing well? I appear to be getting around 20fps average at 5760x1080 on Ultra with no AA - crawls often however.

I get 45-70 FPS on ultra at 5040x1050 (3 x GTX 480), latest "battlefield" beta drivers.

Can we swap job's and salaries? Haha.... Triple SLI is a bit outside my comfort zone I think, cost for one and power draw, rig runs 24/7.. thinking I might wait till next gen actually, think I can limp along with the 5870 for a while longer.

Soon I will! They're sitting on the desk behind me, they shipped too fast though, or rather, my fittings and tubing shipped too slowly, so they taunt me for now :)

I have 2x 5870 in crossfire mode and I get all sorts of textural glitches whenever the settings are on ultra plus the framerates chug. Set it on medium and that all went away, turned it up to high and it looks great and plays great. Using the latest beta drivers. Im sure this will be fixed soon with a profile before launch to maximize the crossfire setups.

To Ibrin:
Dont worry it was well warranted. Had a previous run-in with MW2. I guess I failed to grasp the point of taking time out to go and repeatedly post negative comments about a game because its the direct competitor to your favorite war game.

I didnt notice till a few days ago but playing it in eyefinity mode I have no map, health , ammo and choice of being revived on the HUD. Game is so much fun I never minded (even though its only 1 map).

I grabbed some screenshots of VRAM usage at the various "stock" presets (no individual settings changed), but apparently photobucket resized them by like .33%, making the Afterburner stats unreadable. I'll re-up them later using Imgur when I get home from work.

The VRAM usage when playing at 6100x1080 (5760x1080 with bezel compensation), in Metro outdoors, was the following:

Ultra: 2400MB+ (including 4xAA, SSAO, etc.)
High: 1600MB+
Medium: 1400-1500MB

So if you're trying Ultra in Eyefinity/Surround and you're not tweaking any settings (especially AA), then that's probably the reason that your FPS is choking. I'm guessing the beta is far from optimized as well, so that certainly doesn't help. I was surprised both at how Medium settings were so high, and how increasing to High settings didn't add much at all, VRAM-wise. If these numbers remain (and it isn't some sort of memory leak) then it could be some serious doom and gloom for non-3GB 580 SLI users.

Yeah, I noticed that too early on... but... well... it's a minor thing. I do wish I had the mini-map and all... but given the state of the code we're given, it didn't bother me that much. On the flip side, at least I got a crosshair! All that's left is to see if I can get 40mm smoke grenade and start smokin' some people. :D

I had to reduce a few to jpeg

Post by Aix »

I had to reduce a few to jpeg since they were going over the 10MB limit, and apparently I didn't get a screenshot of the 2400MB+ VRAM, but the 2200MB shot serves much the same purpose.

Medium: 1306 MB

High: 1491 MB

Medium: 1310 MB

High: 1694 MB

High: 1571 MB

High: 1693 MB

High: 1675 MB

Ultra: 2243 MB

Ultra: 2243 MB

It's interesting because even something like Unigine Heaven with 4xAA doesn't get close to the 2GB mark (normal tesselation, 4xAA, High detail). The highest I could get at those settings was 1619 MB and most of the time it was between 1500-1600:

We'll have to wait and see what optimizations both the driver teams and DICE have in store for the final release, but these VRAM values didn't slowly "leak" to those levels; they would rise and fall depending on where I was looking or what was going on. Certainly demanding as-is.

K, now running 3 way sli with 580 3gb's and my 980x @ 4.4GHZ. Still choppy in surround even though my framerate is locked at 60 on low.

Just hoping the finished game will be better optimized with better drivers

Yeah, the current situation is bad for 3 way and 4 way SLI. Hopefully will be improved, EA/DICE/Nvidia are reported to be working on it.

Bad news for SoftTH users.

in my research i found that DX 10.1 is a minimum required for BF3.

Without an update to SoftTh, we will be out of luck for BF3

It wasn't 100% perfect because I could never get it to compensate for Bezel Correction and the extreme edges of my HUD were always cut off because they were behind the bezel.

Strange. The only time I found that mis-alignment to happen was trying to use BC resolutions that were lower than my native one. But with 6120x1080 it worked fine still.
