Centered HUD Tool For Source Engine Games... v2 Now Live!
Re: Centered HUD Tool For Source Engine Games... Live Beta.
hi delph, nice calculator. Could u also include a vertical FOV calculator for this for games like BFBC2 which require VFOV to be entered in the ini? Thanks

I shall look into this. :)

I just await to hear from Ibrin so that it may be updated on the site. :)
EDIT:- Update sent and recived by Ibrin.

Keep up the awesome work :D Hope to see TF2 on there soon ;)
But is the website working at the moment? It was fine the other day but now it doesn't seem to be loading correctly.

Thanks for the kind words, and oh this project is very much still in progress, I have been quietly working on how to manage the content of the various .res config files, as it was getting hard to manage all the various configs and incrementative code for the values that need changing, so I have recently made some great improvements and hope to have something to present to you folks in the coming weeks.
Some of the improvements can already been seen with regards to the calculator which has now officially replaced the previous WSGF FOV calc.
This will be incorporated into the new HUD editor which is designed to update the config files in real time as the values input into the calculator changes :D
Some good things to come :D
TF2 is the first game that will be added, with L4D2 next and then L4D1, after that I may require assistance form this WSGF community as I do not own any other source engine based games.
I see the broken calc... I am away from home atm (using remote desktop), I shall try fix asap.
However of cause keep your eyes pealed for a whole new layout and calc coming soon :D
If anyone from the WSGF wishes to assist me with adding other games that I do not own, then the information I would need would be like the following...
Game:
.res filename:
.res sectionname:
.res xpos default value:
for example...
Game: L4D2
.res filename: ScoreBoard.res
.res section name: scores
.res xpos default value: 0
Game: L4D2
.res filename: ScoreBoard.res
.res sectionname: ServerName
.res xpos default value: 20
etc

Exciting stuff.
Delphium, PM me your Steam ID or add me to your friends list. I'm GeneralAdmission, of course. Capital 'A' for Admission...there's another guy using my handle with lower-case 'a'. You should also join the WSGF Steam group if you haven't done that yet.

Re: Centered HUD Tool For Source Engine Games... Live Beta.
Hey Delph!,
not working for me, old boy. Try putting in 4800 x1200 and get "To shift the HUD by 1 screen('s) we need to increment the xpos values by: 640".
640 sounds awfully low for that res doesn't it? Surely we should be talking more like 1200 pixels. Looking at the script generated the values don't even get onto the middle screen. It seems to think that I'm playing at 640x480.
Any ideas?

You might think so, however the steam engine works from a 640x480 res and ratios everything to match, for example I use a resolution of 3x1920x1080, which equates to a value of 853 per screen, this then shifts the HUD perfectly onto the center screen to where it would be if it was on a single screen.
As such, you can essentialy work out the xpos value per screen with the following examples
480*16/9=853
480*16/10=768
480*5/4=600
480*4/3=640
etc
Here is a before and after shot of using the value of 853 on my setup.
My calc gives the ability to work out the position automaticly when even using bezal compensation and any number of screens using the same res (least at present).

In that case, a thousand apologies to you, good sir. I shall now take your script and for the first time in a long time be able to check hud elements without self inducing whiplash.
Many thanks indeed.

Re: Centered HUD Tool For Source Engine Games... Live Beta.
Hey Delph,
me again ;o)
Tried the script for 4800x1200 and all I get is the right side of the hud crammed into the top left of the screen and nothing else. Hex edited pak01_dir.vpk and changed scripts.hudlayout to scripts.mudlayout and put your generated script into the scripts folder but no dice.
I've had a look and believe I've done everything required but the result's fubar.
Any suggestions???

Which game are you using this for? - I am assuming L4D2 ??
What is your monitor configuration?
Care to take a screen shot in game, also some of the .res files there are a lil old now since some game updates, ive been wokring on updates in the background but not yet complete.

Yup l4d2.
Monitor configuration is 3x1 landscape (3 1600x1200)
Not sure how to take screenshots. Can you advise?
Cheers!!

4 methods
alt+print screen buttons on keyboard,
use fraps,
or just the print screen button if using softth.
or even camera?
do any of the pre made huds work ok for you ? you should be able to use the 4:3 ratio based fix.

Re: Centered HUD Tool For Source Engine Games... Live Beta.
Where can I find the pre-made huds?
I tried using your 5760x1080 file, and got the same result where everything was bunched up in the top left. I think I am also using that crosshair mod that was released earlier.
Im running 57x12.
Do I just replace the dir.cpk or w/e?

Re: Centered HUD Tool For Source Engine Games... Live Beta.
Check either of the TF2 or L4D2 threads for some of the pre made huds available.
L4D2 requires you replace the .vpk file to force the game to use the custom hudlayout.res file in your scripts folder.
Also try using the 48:10 ratio 5040x1050/5760x1200 mod instead of the 48:9 5760x1080 mod.

Ok, I have spent time learning php and regex in the last few weeks, and have been able to produce a system that allows users to upload any .res file from any of the source engine games or mods.
Once the user uploads the .res file, it filters the files for section names and xpos values, which is then presented to the user like thus...
The user can manually select which items are to be adjusted which is then highlighted in green.
The next step is to take the sections that have been ticked and increment them with the values worked out in my calculator and then provide a file for download back to the user. :)
The project might be coming on slowly (mainly due to me having to learning a number of lanuages that ive never ever touched since late January 2010), but its not forgotten :)

Re: Centered HUD Tool For Source Engine Games... Live Beta.
Update:
I have now completed the HUD editor and just require a few tweaks in order to marry it up with my calc to conduct the maths to work out how much to shift HUD items by, at the momment I am using a static value of 444 which will change to a variable soon.
Here the user can upload any .res file from any source engine game.
The editor scans the file for all the xpos values and their relevent sections (fieldName's).
Here you can manually select which items you may like to adjust, or simply apply a preset of selected items from the menu, in this case I am using the hudlayout.res file from L4D2. You may also notice that the page states that the HUD will be incremented by 444, this figure will change once I have finished tweaking this to marry it up to the calc, which will in turn define this value after the user enters details into the calc.
Once the items are selected, they are passed to the next page which then scans the file again and edits the selected items by incrementing them by the current test value of 444.
Clicking download presents a "save as" dialog box :)
Essentially the main aim of this tool was to remove all the donkey work of opening up .res files and manually finding and incrementing each of the xpos values, and as such will hopefully make editing of any .res files a lot less time consuming.
One of the added bosnuses is that even .res files from mods are supported although without any selection presets (least at present), for anyone that wishes to use thier fav HUD mod on a multi screen setup :D
EDIT: might help if I provide a link to it eh :P http://indy.unmake.net/~wut/php/fovcalc.php
This is a tempory home for this project untill I finish updating the calc in which this will likely all be hosted and embbed into WSGF tools.
