Is the rest of the game ok at 3840 after that first race ?

no I think not, other TH games are running good and fps in NFS shift are ok.
In the menu there are no problems.
Is there a log file that nfs is creating when errors occur?

No idea... I can't find any log file here anyway.

Try editing the graphicsconfig.xml found in user/documents/nfs shift

look for the following line and change to suite as per below.
