First of all absolutely wonderful job. I would really be interested in a DIY guide for this project also. Do you still think you might write one once you have the time?

yup i plan on doing just that...first i have to find away to get these Led's mounted...there a little biger than i had planned on using...but im sure ill find a way soon.

I've just done a bit of an experiment myself... You spurred me into cannibalizing my 8" lcd that I no longer use and it's now on its way into being mounted into the front of my machine... was a hell of a lot easier than I expected! I'll post a few pics upon completion

Good stuff...i just pulled apart a 6" lcd...im going to try to munt it to the front side of my pc as well..lol

Guys,,,,there is no way of getting around the "bezel" even without the bezel there is still 1/4" of dead space at the edge...the bezel is required to keep the acrylic sheets and plastics together and to hold the tube and wire that runs along two sides.

i tried everything i could...i even trashed a brand new 19"lcd in the process

Although I have Zero experience in it, I'm told that harended transperent rubber can replace the metal.

The hardened rubber apperently is less than 4mm think. to hold both screens together. I.E one piece in the middle, instead of two.

Woo! I got a dremel yesterday... was getting bored of waiting for architecture students to smuggle me into the workshop so I thought I'd get on building a bezel for my drive bay mounted screen at home. I find it hard to believe how much the matrix orbital screens cost when for less you can get a decent sized lcd tv and rip it into pieces! With a bit of luck it'll turn out looking vaguely awesome...

As for removing the metal bezels after you've taken the plastic cases off of a screen - I'd be way too scared to do it, but check out the radius 320 screens - http://www.seamlessdisplay.com/products_radius320.htm - no bezel there! These things were developed by students at oxford, maybe you could ask them for tips?

Where did you buy the triple monitor stand, and what did it cost?

On a sidenote, I have been looking quite a while to update my lcds with new ones with a thinner bezel,
Any body find a brand with real thin (1cm or so) bezels? The ones I found are from Dell, but are expensive (350 euros, is more than 400US$).

If i remember right the benqs have a pretty thin bezel too

Yup thats the exact stand i used... i bought it from tiger direct in Toronto

I used thses monitors cause they were inexpensive and had the smallest bezel's i could find with out paying double the price of what i paid.

Here it is for $174.24, even then, still too rich for my blood.

I can't believe they charge that much for just some metal and molded plastic!

Thats actually about the price I paid for one of my monitiors.

This unit is allot more than "just some metal and molded plastic!"

Its a very well constructed mounting system...has spring tension adjustments for swivel and for raising and lowering the unit...this thing will not even come close to tipping with three monitors mounted on it...well worth the money if you value your equipment.

Good to know the quality is good.

I'm just making the point of the price of what amounts to a forth monitor (depending on how much you spent). This thing is no where near the technological complexity of an LCD. It is just some metal and plastic. Despite the quality (which makes me more inclined to buy one), even selling it for $170 someone is walking away with $150. :lol:

I'm very tempted, the idea of consolidating my three monitors into one has a great appeal to me. But, my cutoff price was closer to the $100 range.
