Oblivion is indeed dissapointing after Morrowind, but it's still a great game. When you expect one thing and get another it can often be hard to like it anyway, despite it being a great action/rpg.

Its a love hate thing for me. I love the game ....so much in fact i spent an easy 1000$ ( two 8800gts, water cooling system ,and some ocz sli ram ) just so i could play it wide open on my 24 inch dell. I hate paying for the hardware. Oblivion is the first game i ever played that i actually would stop just to take in all the eye candy. In my opinion if you dont like oblivion your not playing it right lol!
....i have a single 8800gts.......it looked worse to me then half life 2 did personally.

Horrible framerate and looked bad = for me, yuck.

I don't care what the gameplay is like. If the graphics is bad enough my machine is having a problem with it so much it is unplayable, it's not work it.

Strange that I haven't yet replied to this thread. Anyway...

I hate Oblivion too. I think it's totally overrated, just like Halo, and only did so well due to all the pre-release hype, and being released at a time when there was a lack of games in its genre, on its platform.

In short, things which imho make Oblivion such:

The engine. It crashes like every hour on my otherwise very stable system. The framerates suck, considering the graphics aren't that amazing. The user interface sucks too.

Lame game design. You basically get punished for leveling up. By leveling up all monsters get harder and harder, while you don't necessarily get stronger if you didn't specialise in combat-oriented abilities. And if you always choose to level up whenever you can, you gimp yourself since you'll only get a +1 bonus to your attributes.

Bugs. The game shipped with lots of bugs, and there have only been like 2 official patches. The developers let the community fix their game, rather than fixing it themselves.

Rip-off add-ons. $2 for a horse model or an extra quest? F*** that shit. Okay, they stopped doing it and did end up releasing a proper expansion, but still...

Personly I liked Oblivion, have Morrowind but I never properly played it (yet) so I carn't compare it to that. It took me a good 125 hours to complete pretty much everything (all major questlines and Shivering Isles). My old PC had a Radeon 9600 and managed to give fairly respectable framerates with the settings dialed down, at 600x800 anyway. My new PC has a 8800GTS and even with high-resolution textures can still get about 30 FPS at 1600x1200, and I haven't experianced freqent crashes on ether system.

Oh and if your going to use mods you'll probobly want BTmod, that makes the user interface better my makeing the menu items smaller. Orgianly I think the UI was designed for the Xbox version makeing it, quite frankly, terrible.

And if you have the diskspace and a fair ammount of video ram I would get Qarl's texture pack 3 and Oblivion Book Jackets. Those two make the game so much better looking.

I was trying to download Qarl's Texture Pack 3 - 1720MB of textures. For some reason, it borked at 1400MB, and needed to restart.

Anyone got this, can you say whether it's worth it?

I have the texture pack myself and I can say that it is well worth it, the higher reslution textures look fantastic and I get almost no slowdown as a result of them on my 8800 GTS (the 640MB version).

There are two places to download it.

One of them is slow.

The other requires signup. I will not sign up to a site just to download one file, thankyouverymuch. ;)

Oblivion... hmmm... and I just started... lol me after 3 pages of reading I really considering to find some other game to enjoy. I didnt spend too much time playing, just finished sewers and expected to see somth amazing... but shit its a waste-land. If its slasher - then give me somth to slash :  . There are some RPG stuff, but its sort if automatic :)
ATM I'm bored.
The one funny stuff is - then first rat attacked me, my expectation raised above all - it was so Fallout.

Oh and BTW, I dont read reviews, I dont observe production, I dont hunt for screenshots, I go for demo or full and then I read reviews 8)
