Dark Messiah of Might and Magic - Steam preload/order begun

Yeah, I've got textures at max. I saw that there was some stuff online about turning it down to medium decreased load times, but I thought, "What the hell, I'll leave it at max..." ;)

I've failed the same 'chapter' six times now, as the incredibly crap friend AI keeps getting itself killed.

I swear, with friends like that, who needs enemies?

I'm pretty far into the game now and I'm enjoying it a lot. Some great adrenaline moments! No spoiler tho, don't worry.

A good way I found to eliminate the problem you mention is to leave the NPC in question stationary - i.e. use the stay put command. Then just do the level yourself and they'll join you after. Far less hassle. Worked for me, no problems at all.

I'm running textures at medium and that works for me. AA, AF, V-sync, etc. all enabled. Load times are much faster with tex. on medium. The difference between the two is pretty damn minor visually - which makes me wonder why the performance hit is seemingly so great?

Ah well...good game! 7.5/10, I'd say.

As useful as telling them to "stay put" is, don't you just hate it when an npc slips by you, or for some reason they just decide to ignore you? :P.

I certainly wouldn't say that it's worth more than about 8/10. Lots of people on GameFAQS are all in a tizzy about Gamespot or somewhere giving it 'only' 6.7 out of 10. It's good, but it isn't that great...!

And Microtia is right - I tell them to stay put, and just as I'm lining up a shot with the bow, she walks in front of me. So then she gets hit from two sides - the archer I was about to kill... and me. Dammit.

...

Overall... I prefer Oblivion. Without mods. And that is saying something.

Id say its about an 8-8.5 at most. A couple things could have been done better but what are you gonna do about it :P.

Also, the 6.7 was indeed Gamespot. Then again, Jeff probably wasn't the best person to have reviewed it anyway.

I definitely prefer this to Oblivion. Morrowind is a different story however :P.

To each their own, of course. :) I just like my RPG's a little less linear. Linear is boring. if Deus Ex, Oblivion, Morrowind... etc, etc... can do it, why can't Dark Messiah?

Oh...
