That's totally weird. Must be the programming of the game then.

I just read this on IGN.com ...

Bethesda recently announced that the PC version of ES4 cannot have both HDR and AA, but it looked quite nice with just HDR. Load times are faster on the PC, but the visuals are about equal. The 360 version of Oblivion does both HDR and AA

WTF, why is that. Did they just cut it out for the PC version.
!@#$%^&* I can't stand that attitude, it's just a stupid marketing trick.
The pc version is cool, but if you buy a 360 you get better graphics.
So come on stupid consumers, all buy a 360. !@#%^&* :x

From the previews that I have read, the consensus is that the PC version looks better than the 360. This is, of course, on a very high end PC... but nothing better than a lot of people have here.

I guess I will see the PC version tomorrow (if I can find it!)

Royal, are you running with 84.21? I was playing for several hours last night at 1920x1200 with HDR on and didn't notice hardly any lag except at nighttime in an area with lots of flora. Needless to say, this game can be played well in high res with lots of goodies.

Yes, I'm using 84.21. I read a large thread over at oblivion boards saying ati is getting higher performance. This guy said that with his 7900GTX he's getting 30fps on average at 1600 x 1200 and can go a bit lower at certain times which is my case (sometimes it'll go 15fps). Dunno what specifically I have set that is causing the fps loss but hopefully the drivers will clear it up. If not, then Ill turn down some stuff and see if I can get better framerates.

I just encountered something weird. When I was playing, my computer froze and many of the oblivion textures turned blue. I had to force restart. Perhaps a bug. I doubt it's overheating since I have very good air cooling and I can play any other game for hours without this happening.

Dude that sucks. I can imagine how bummed you must be to have prepared and waited for the game and then have these bugs. What are you using to measure fps? I have the same gpu so I'd like to be able to compare and see if we can figure out where the problem is.

I wouldnt worry Paddy, itll still look 100x better than the 360 version with HDR at 1920x1200 :)

So you say. I'll get some shots up of the 360 version in widescreen when the game comes in tomorrow.

Looking forward to it kjk.

Would be nice if some more peeps could take screens of the pc version and share. highest possible res and quality but still playable. No showoffs(no extreme quality and unplayable).

I haven´t decided if i´m gonna buy the pc or 360 version yet.

So I just got done with about 4 hours of oblivion, and it is just what I expected, Morrowind on crack. I LOVE it.

I'm REALLY peeved off right now though, I hate how the 360 handles its vga output. Some games like this one and PGR3 only run in 1024x768 when in 1280x1024 mode. It runs in some weird res and it stretches, so I'm forced to downgrade to 1024x768 and it just doesn't look that hot.

I NEED a 2407 now, NEEEED!!!

I was able to get a copy of the game this afternoon, but had to go to work so I haven't got to play it yet.

This is the longest day at work... EVER!

Can't wait to see how it performs with the x1900xt. I am loving this GPU by the way. it can run at 670 core/ 1500 mem with no lockups or artifacts. Probably could go higher, but I am scared to try it with the stock cooler.

OBLVION!!! WOOT!

So I can use my native resolution 1440 x 900?

Edit: Nevermind, I already found the answer in another topic

Okay, it looks like you have to edit an .ini file in order to take screenshots in the PC version. I messed around trying to find the option last night for a while and finally stumbled on to that. You can find the details on the Oblivion PC page (it's listed under Elder Scrolls IV) over at gamefaqs. I found this just before I zonked out last night, but hopefully I can get some shots tonight.

On a separate note, I did notice some severe slowdown in framerates last night just in certain outdoor areas. One area was just north of Bruma and there was a lot of tall grass - the bad part was I was trying to fight a guy here, and the lag was prohibitive. Once I retreated to the road, everything sped up again and I beat him down. The other place I really noticed it was just outside of the Imperial City at the stables around dusk. Maybe rendering all the horses gave it problems... I'm not sure. Looks like this is gonna be a game to really test your hardware for a while to come.
