Now I'm trying to hack /global/GlobalMemoryFile.bin file to able widescreen option. There are some code regarding 'Widescreen' in this file. But don't expect too much though:? I am afraid I'm able to hack it, but 50% positive.

I'll post some picture of it so that everybody else can have look at it and help me out.

mainNFS folder/Global/GlobalMemory.bin

U can modify some codes in the file and was able to change 1280x1024 to 1920x1200 but... change applies to only 'TEXT' itself but not real resolution of the game.

I'm quite sure that in the same file, there should be some codes relating changing real resolution. [/img]

If you're looking for the actual res, it won't be in ASCII text in the file - it'll be encoded in Little Endian and therefore won't make much sense (1024 in little endian is 0004).

The res itself is probably in the .exe, but EA normally encrypt them. If the .exe is really small, it might reference a .dll for that sort of thing.

hmmm interesting, so by modifying this resolution text..the resolution still stays at normal 4:3 aspect? Thanks for the find anyway though!, we are getting there!

What I believe was meant was that while the game reports in the options that the res is (insert edited widescreen res here), it isn't, because you have only changed the reporting text, rather than the actual code that controls the res. If we can find that, then the end is in sight...

I guess we just have to wait a bit.

Sad that companies dont realise WS gaming is a fact on PC today, and that games need to support WS.

I take it the .exe from the demo doesn't work on the retail version? Sometimes the .exe from demos are identical to the full release with one notable exception - no protection. I don't have the demo so I can't check it.

I'm not even playing this till I can get a decent res. ATM I'm stuck with 800x600 stretch on a 155cm DLP. Yuck!

I hear you. I'm not even going to buy this game until I know a widescreen hack works. Too bad because I loved the demo. :(

Same here, was going to buy it too, but waiting until widescreen is supported.

Or I'll get it just so I can register and bug their support about the crappy support for highend gaming on PC.

UNIWS works the following way for NFS games : spot where the screen res is stored (need a hacker to do this) and replace the 640x480 res description with your custom res.

The prob is that all retail version of EXE is encrypted and dynamically decrypted in RAM at execution. The prob is that you need to modify the encrypted file so that magically the decrypted version is exactly the same version but the res description : don't event think about it :)

So what are we waiting for ? the cr*cked EXE file, because it's the same as the actual retail EXE except is decrypted (and do not check for the real CD).

Well... I'm in such a situation that I just can't play this great game. :(
My monitor is an Acer AL1913W 19" widescreen - 1440x900 native res. But when in full screen, it only stretches the games, not allowing me to have normal 4:3 with the black bars on the sides... (this really sucks)... As an alternative to a widescreen patch, I'd really like to have a windowed mode patch so I can play it with normal 4:3 res. Do any of you guys know when could I get a windowed mode patch?

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

If you guys are really waitting for a crack, I do not think there will be. Like the rest of 2006 EA games the safedisk blocks any such crack.

Fuck EA. They just rushed the game so it could be released before Christmas. Eventually we might get a patch or some magical hacker will find a work-around, but don't expect it too soon.

We should start e-mailing EA and asking then to release a patch that will allow for widescreen modes. If the demo was able to work in widescreen they should allow it in the full game. If enough people send them an e-mail on this subject maybe it will start turning heads over there.

I'd be glad to e-mail them, everyday. Somebody post an e-mail address we can contact them with. Or at least point us in the right direction.

I did find this page, but it's for press use only.
http://www.info.ea.com/company/company_message.php?pr_id=11
I'm going to keep looking though.

Btw, did anyone notice that the movies that tell the story look great on widescreen. I think these movies where made for the widescreen console versions and they just didn't do anything to make them 4:3 like they did with the rest of the game. So if you play the game at 4:3 the cars in the movies look really high.

My god, EA is such a good company.

Found this page:
Link 1

and this one:
Link 2

the last one is for technical support, but you have to login.

PS Edit: The ultra-long link broke the tables. Fixed. :)

Edit:  Sorry for that
