I don't think it's your resolution. I've been running 1680 x 1050 with no problems. If you post the exact message, someone might be able to help more.

Since the 1.41 patch, I cannot get this POS to run at any widescreen resolution. I used to run at 1360x768 just by adding the +szx.... to the target line. I just figured out that my CRT Sony 500PS can do 1920x1200 or x1080 and I find that widescreen resolution incredible. The colors look so liquid. I run with a bar at the top and bottom of the screen, but it looks incredibly good. BF2, since this 1.41 patch, doesn't seem capable of being forced to a widescreen resolution anymore. I tried editing the My Documents/BF2 files, still no go. I'm starting to really get tired of BF2 and it's BS. It was a great idea that EA corrupted into some sort of rewards contest, not a game any more. They can pretty much have it.

I'm running 1.41 at 1680 x 1050 and all is fine. You could try renaming the .con files (both of them) to something like .conOld and see if it will start (simulating a first time startup?).

Ok im running patch 1.41 and using a 22" Acer Al2223W with resolution of 1680x1050. I tried the command line parameters like 50 times and nothing works. The video con files changed after the 1.41 patch and it all looks different. Im desperate for help because I got to far in BF2 to stop now.

I was running 1680 x 1050 before I installed the patch and it continued to run fine after installing, with no additional edits required. Both of my video.con files (see locations in above post) currently have the same thing in them.

VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 1
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 1
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 1
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 0
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 0
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 1
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 1
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 1
VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 0.75
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 0

I believe the operative line above is setResolution 800x600@60Hz, but you could try replacing everything with the above and see if that works. If so, then you can play with the rest of settings afterwards. I have an old machine, so my video settings are minimized to reduce lag.

If it starts OK, but then exits after login, then it is probably the video.con file that is causing the problem.

Could someone tell me how to get 1680x1050 for bf 2142??? I have tried the (+menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050) change to the short cut target. Every thing I have tried comes up with the same results screen changes size a few times and crashes to desktop.

did you remove the video.con file?

there are more info posted on this than just editing the shortcut.

And do not cross post the exact same question. One is enough.

No, I did not remove that file. Should I remove it and try shortcut hack?
Thank you and sorry again.

Now the only thing i am a bit annoyed with is the text in the game, the text of who killed who and what people are saying is horrible. Its like it is at 800x600 res, same goes for the mini map looks horrible. But the text above peoples head in the game looks awesome?? So how do i get the text looking better?

same problem to me :(

When i play with black bars left and right everything is ok, no laggs no tearing... But when i start in 1680x1050 its not playable with that horrible text and these damn tearing -.-

plz help

Try renaming all your video.con files (there should be two of them) and see if all is well. If that works, start restoring your old settings and see if all stays OK. You may get to some setting that is causing the poor behaviour.

i have tryed to delete the video.con files but there was no changes :(

the text is big and square-edged like the spawnpoints on the map.

Best quality i have is when i make this shortcut hack and reduce the graphic settings.

Other Ideas to make the text smaller?

edit: are newer FOV hacks existing from Racer_s for Bf2 Patch 1.41 ? I have downloaded a old version for Bf2 version 1.0 to 1.3

I use the following shortcuts for BF2 and BF2 Special Forces:
"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

You mentioned FOV, so I wondered if you have a different option on your shortcut that is messing it up.

Perhaps some OS setting, like Display Properties, Appearance, Font Size = Large?

Hello, I use the same Shortcuts like you with the little difference of + widescreen 1 than + fullscreen 1 but that options doesnt matter...

I tested the game with black bars, there is the text horrible too, but not stretched so its not soooo bad like widescreen res.

I dont know what to change :(

My System:
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 2,4 Ghz
Graphic: Geforce 7800 GTX
RAM: 2 GB DDR2 800
Monitor: NEC 20wgx2pro (1680x1050)

That is the best performance to play Bf2 perfect :/

In the game FEAR is everything perfect.

Euuhh what's wrong whit ur pictures, Zed ? I don't see nothing, you have the same results that we all do. Nothing better to do here, since EA doesn't give a damn about WS support. Enjoy it like that we all do...

looks great BUT the top and bottom are cut off...how?

Post by Tommazoe »

Hi to all!

I've been reading a ton regarding the cursed widescreen solutions for BF2,
I am able to stretch the 4:3 view to my monitor, however I can't for the life of me get 1200x800 solution with the top and bottom cut off..

I've tried:

+menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 800
+menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 800
+menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

The first two stretch my screen, whereas the third crashes the game.
I added the rem to the video.con file, but it doesn't help.
Please help me!

Thank you in advance.

BF2 Version: 1.41
Notebook: Asus A6Ja
GFX Card: ATi Mobility Raedon x1600 (With the latest Omega Driver)
Native screen res: 1200x800

Edit: Disregard my post, I somehow didn't realize I was indeed playing in cropped mode. :P

Sorry if this was mentioned here. I posted this in another thread here was what I did to fix it.

I didn't read through this whole thread so sorry if its been covered.

I just bought a Hanns-G 19" WS. Every time I tried BF2 it crashed shortly after the initial splash screen. I tried the [i]+szx [h] +szy [v][i] to no avail.

Both my vid card and monitor have DVI-D and VGA connectors so I thought I'd try BF2 with an analog signal. IT worked no problem.

So now I have both DVI and VGA connected and I use my Nvidia properties button in the taskbar to quickly switch between analog and digital signals to my monitor.

Not the fix I was looking for but it works until EA can get their act together to offer full WS and digital support for ALL their games.

Hope this helps someone.
