No sorry ... :(
I have passed on the info to Racer_S ... it's his hack and I don't know the workings of it ... it is best dealt with by him.

If he gets back to me about it I'll post.

well i just got a samsung syncmaster205bw. the shortcut hack works great for bf2 single player. as long as i double click the shortcut i get my 1680x1050 res, but when i use a multiplayer browser and connect i revert back to 800x600. i've tried deleting all of my video.con files. that didn't work for me. seeing as i only play multiplayer help.

It works for me...

Shortcuthack:

"D:Battlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Everytime use this shortcut!!!!

Usually if you go trough this shortcut into the multiplayerbrowser the resoulution should be the same.

bump for my question...

I have a question:

I can get widescreen to work fine by appending the info to the executable for BF2. This also works in Special Forces. But, when I launch BF2 (as opposed to Special Forces) and then decide to play a Special Forces map, the widescreen option does not work and it reverts back to stretching the resolution. This also happens if I launch Special Forces and then decide to load a non-Special Forces map. It is annoying because I have to restart the game using either executable to get the widescreen to work.

Anyone know what is causing this and if it is fixable?

Thanks

Just for the record: Stretching means you didn't really implement widescreen support at all. The slightly increased FOV on widescreen is naturally what happens when you correctly implement widescreen support. If they think this is "unfair" they need to get a life and leave it up to players to get onboard with widescreen monitors if they're THAT concerned about it being such an OMG HUGE playing advantage.

Any upcoming game that does not properly support widescreen is one I won't buy.

So is this somehow cut-out?

I havent noticed any strechin or the FOV being cut, but you guys know better I guess. It looks great to me. Here is a shot from BF2 @1440x900 everything maxed, 4xaa, TAA-supersampling:

Hello. I've been lurking at these forums for a while, and just wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping me get BF2 up and running on my widescreen. Now though, I have a problem myself.

I have a Gateway FPD2185W. Its native res is 1680x1050. Awesome screen, but I"m having some issues with BF2.

I set my target line for BF2 shortcut to:

"D:EA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

And everything works, but I"m getting some performance issues.

AMD 64 3200
1 gig of ram
6800 GT

Upgrade your CPU
For best possibly gameplay without any lagging, 2gb ram is recommanded when cranking up the resolution,AA,AF
your graphics card is ok...but kinda old...

Hi All...a noob at posting here. BUT, I just got a Gateway FPD2185W widescreen display and want to know the 'definitive' solution to running BF2 in widescreen format. I've read a ton of posts here and it is very confusing which "patch" or hack or whatever works. Is this>>> Set target line for BF2 shortcut to: "D:EA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 >>>> all that needs to be done?

if not, can someone plz explain, in one single comprehensive post, what needs to be done to "Patch" BF2 for all of our widescreen pleasure?.

Thanx!!! :D

What difference does the +widescreen option make?. Isn't +szx 1680 +szy 1050 enough?
Asus Rampage IV Formula / Intel i7 3930K C2 / 32 GB G.Skill RipjawsZ DDR3 2133 Quad Channel
Corsair Force GT 60 GB SATA3 / WD Caviar Black 2 TB / Seagate Barracuda Green 2 TB

over 130,000 views.

holy shit!

Adn still no proper fix.

I think some Dice devs need a kick in the teeth for 2142.
(and BF2 of course)

Dice is a crappy dev who produces crappy buggy games. Then, they take the stuff that works and ruin it for everyone because a minority within their game cry about how bad they get owned by good players.

Death to Dice and EA.

So... still no fix? The one above doesn't work with the 1.41 patch, sadly.

I first added the size tags to the shortcut I use, as others have discussed, as follows:

Code: Select all

       "C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

However, the game would exit almost immediately. I then discovered that you you have to edit TWO video.con files:

Code: Select all

       C:Documents and SettingsRoyMy DocumentsBattlefield 2ProfilesDefaultVideo.con

       and

       C:Documents and SettingsRoyMy DocumentsBattlefield 2Profiles001Video.con

Edit each file and comment out the resolution line, as follows:

Code: Select all

       rem VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@85Hz

When I just edited DefaultVideo.con, the game would launch OK, the video would come up, then the login screen, but once I logged in, it would exit. This made me curious, so I looked around and found Profiles001Video.con file. Aha - makes sense. It uses default until you login then switches to your user specific settings. Makes sense... just frustrating that I have to learn this...

Enjoy,
Roy
