What's the complaint exactly? Don't look at the 'text' of the resolutions; AoE2Wide will use 1024x768 as 'source' resolution for yours, and will therefore disable anything higher than that (for technical reasons). So no, it won't get better... until you buy an even better monitor, that is :)

Thx for yours reply. Ah I was noobie , Now I am smarter with resolutions :D
The only bug that I have is, that the game crashes when I use alt+tab.
I see only a cmd window and explorer.exe dosent want to restart even ctrl+alt+del dosen't do anything... and I hawe to restart the PC with the restart button...But I think thats becouse my game is not original ?!
Or soemthing is not correct couse as I said the cmd window wrote errors when creating the bat and exe files.

The locking is because of the color fix: it freezes the Explorer process... You'll have to accept that you can't alt-tab out of this almost 15 year old game... Although, there is another color fix available (see a page or two up in this thread), if you manage to use that, you can remove the lines with 'process.exe' from the created batch files, and alt-tab should be ok again!

i don't recommend alt tabbing out of Ddraw games even with that fix, it can screw it up.

I downloaded and installed the patch, everything works correctly, but I'm still having problems with the colors on Win7. (i.e. still getting red pixels everywhere, river colors are messed up, etc.) I looked through the thread for a solution but didn't see one. Maybe I missed something?

Try to press ctrl alt del while ingame and stop the explorer.exe task.
After if u want to use ur windows u hawe to manualy start explorer.exe again in taskmanager "applications" tab and tipeing explorer.exe in new process.

Using the batch file the patcher creates doesn't work for you?

Nope. It gave me two .bat files: AoC1.0 1920x1080 and AoCmyth 1920x1080. Neither of them have the colors fixed. I didn't think to ctrl-alt-del and end the explorer.exe task, will test that tomorrow to see if it works.

Hello boekabart,

Thx for your great Mod!!!

I installed it on my Notebook and everything is fine, but on the PC of my friend there are some problems with the graphics of the Fog of War...

I hope u can help us with that...

1. a "grass" location

2. a "dessert" location

3. a "winter" location

 It's weird, that the Screenshots look normal on his PC, but that the graphics look strange in the game itself...

I dont know, if this is important, but Ihe has Vista 64 Bit and I have Vista 32 Bit...

Also my Notebook has a Geforce 9700m GT and he has a ATI Radeon 4800 Series (last driver: 8.620.0.0 from 15/05/2009)...

Thank u very much for helping us with that problem!!!

Definitely caused by your display drivers.

Thank you for the awesome work on getting widescreen working in Age Of Empires. I do have one problem though. When I want to play multiplayer it will display the hosting game but when I click join to play it will always time out. I'm guessing because I have different resolutions creating differect exe's on each computer must be the case? If I use the original GCW exe I can connect and play without issue...well, besides no widescreen of course. I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done or should they be working? I have 1920x1200 on one screen, 1680x1050 on the other and I have a normal 1280x1024 on the third. The widescreen patch works fine to play single player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

a big issue about AOC

Post by tonys1010 »

Hi, guys.
I am experiencing a big issue about AOC.
First of all,
I opened the AOE II, I can open it and play it perfectly.
That's a great thing.
After that,
I tried the AOC one, I double clicked it and a black screen comes out.
I thought I know what's happened.
So, I tuned the compacity to Win XP2-3, resolution ratio to 4:3, 16-bit colours, closed the explorer.exe and so on.
None of them can help.
I searched on google and plenty of players have the same question.
I listened one of them to set the resolution to 1024x800.
It succeed once.
After that, I can't do it again.
So, I know the problem is about resolution.
I searched on google again and found your website.
I downloaded your software and tried.
Still can't fix it.
So, what can I do now?
I know that you guys know how to solve the problems.
Can you help me, Boekabart?

I can describe it more.
I double click the age2_x1.exe.
After the video, it should go to the game menu, but it doesn't.
The screen comes black.
Windows say it is a crash, and you need to close the program.
Thats all.

My computer runs with Windows 7 Home Edition, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
Intel Core i5 CPU, and run on 1920x1680 HD normally.

Thanks Boekabart anyway.
You gave me a hope.

Sorry to bother you guys, but I'm having a little trouble with this.

How would I set it up to run fullscreen on 1366x768? I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to things like this.

Hi boekabart,

Many thanks for this patch, however I am having a few problems.

I have done the following:

1. Installed Age of Empires 2,
2. Installed Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors,
3. Applied 1.0c Patch
4. Used a NOCD crack (first tried to use DEViANCE crack and then BSK crack - from Megagames)
5. Ran your AoE2Wide.exe and am getting the following error:

Press any key to quit

I assume it's a problem with the NO CD crack. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

NOTE: That both your DYNDNS and Hosted Websites are down and not working. Well at least from the UK they are. Therefore I have had to get your patch from AoCZone website.

I have the following files:

AoE2Wide.exe
AoE2Wide.exe.config
AoE2Wide.RootPatch
AoE2Wide_1.0.patch
AoE2Wide_1.0c.patch
AoE2Wide_1.0e.patch
Process.exe

I got the same error, but then i saw the .bat file on the "...Microsoft GamesAge of Empires II" folder and The conquerors expansion started fine when I executed it.

Now im trying to run the Age of Kings (the original AoE2) in widescreen. Does anybody knows how to do so? :(

Hi guys, I've downloaded the version posted by "iNCQRiT" in the 21 page and tried to play AoE The Age of Kings.
I tried to change the resolution parameters in the "config.xml" file and it didn't work. It seems that AoE is forced to run at 1280x1024 resolution. So, does anybody know how to force it to another resolution or a way to play Age of Kings in 1280x800 res?

I just wanted to play the Age of Kings Campaings
