Oh, I finally got uniws working. The opening "A long time ago.." scene doesn't show up, though.

Many people seem to note this hack (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/WSGF_Hacks_for_SW:KOTOR) won't work on the Steam version. Well, the Steam version is also an older version of the game because someone doesn't seem to realize money's at stake and people like to use fully-patched versions of their investments. I manually downloaded the 1.03 patch and installed it just fine. I then used a no-cd method (as I own the game on Steam) to allow me to play it. now the game shows up in Steam but also works as-intended if you were use the CD/DVD version of the game. By this method, you're able to use the hack properly. Steam users now have a way to hack their game.

I'm having a problem using the uniws utility. I've followed the instructions but when I attempt to patch I get an error message saying "Unable to write to file SWKOTOR.EXE for patch #6! Close all programs/games before patching." Once I press ok the same message repeats 5 more times with the patch # going down to 1. I don't have any programs at all running at the same time let alone Kotor itself so I don't understand. If it's important I am using Windows 7 64 bit. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Nice to see this game isn't dead yet.
I'm on Win7 x64, with a ATi 5770, and I have the Steam version. I updated to 1.3 and then used the no-cd.
Alright, so after racking my brains for a while, I finally got it working. The only way I could get it to load however was to force windowed mode (via .ini), once into the menu, turn it back to fullscreen (via Alt+Enter). I couldn't get past the logo if I booted the game at fullscreen.
Too bad it's not fully functional on triple monitor ratios. Would have loved if someone already made a GUI for 2048x1152, but I guess these monitors are a rare breed. :)

Thank you WSGF. :)

I know this has been posted prior, but the others that have resolved it haven't said how they have, but i'm trying to get KOTOR running in 1440x900, however, the uniws tool wont let me enter a custom resolution, and when editing with a HEX editior, it still only loads in 1024x768, and in game it gives no options at all to adjust the resolution (completely blank), if i edit in the .ini file it will change the resolution, but it will only show half the screen, like it zooms in on the left half of the screen and the right half isn't showing at all. I'm at a loss as to how to get it working, and would really like to get it running in 1440x900

The version of KOTOR i'm running is Best of PC box set version, so it's pre patched to the latest version
setup is
Windows 7 64bit home
Pentium i5 processor,
4GB DDR3 ram
1GB ATi Mobile Radeon 5460

Any pointers or tips?

little update on my issue, i've decided to try the no cd crack, still no luck, i was able to get the uniws to patch the file, and if i open the exe in a hex editior all the values appear correct i patched to 1440x900 and this is what the resolution part of the hex shows
3D A0 05 00 00 75 12 81 7C 24 08 84 03 00 00 75 5B B8 01 00 00 00 C2 08 00 3D 00 04 00 00 75 12 81 7C 24 08 00 03 00 00 75 42 B8 01 08 3D C0 03 00 00 74 07 3D 00 04 00 00 75 21 B8 01 00 00 00 C2 08 00 3D 40 06 00 00 75 12 81 7C 24 08 B0 04 00 00

My HUD hex shows
3D A0 05 00 00 B3 29 88 9C 24 D4 01 00 00 74 71 3D 00 00 00 00 74 30 3D 00 00 00 00

And finally my ingame movie resolution is showing
A0 05 00 00 75 15 81 3D D8 D1 78 00 84 03

I've downloaded the proper hud files and placed them in the override folder and still no luck, the game still defaults to 1024x768, and if i change the ini file it only zooms the left half of the screen, and movies don't play at all...

I'm getting tired of playing the game in such a small resolution, if anyone knows whats wrong please let me know :(

Hi! New user here at the WSGF. I just tried to edit my swkotor.exe with Hex Editor Neo in Vista and found that I was wasting my time hunting down Hex codes that didn't show up and not having the codes for 1920x1080 in any case. If any of you are frustrated by hunting for nonexistent search strings because you are running 1920x1080, you may wish to try this for getting your uniws.exe to work without fussing with Vista/7 permissions and such!

A previous poster gave me the idea after moving the ini file to the desktop for editing. Drag swkotor.exe to the desktop. Run uniws.exe and direct it there for the executable. Worked like a charm for me and ended the 6, 5, 4... problem. Drag the little guy back into its home folder and be certain to give your swkotor.ini the same journey to the desktop to edit in your desired resolution.

I still have a problem getting the interface right and I do hope that you can get that 1920x1080 interface up domfather, as the ones found here at WSGF do not work for me - yet. It may be I'm missing something, but I'd sure like to say goodbye to those borders and have an interface that isn't in-your-face.

Seems to have been some time sense anyone has posted here.

Took the time and read through this thread and I cant seem to find a fix for my issuse some people have had similer problems and I have tried what has ben suggested but nothing has fixed it.

My computer is an asus g73 the stripped down best buy model but i still love it ;p

Anyways my display is 1600x900, same as I am trying to run the game and radeon Ati 5870 card.

I got the game from direct2drive with no cd. I got the no CD Crack exe file and the uniws and patched it in what the instrution said to do.
The game itself runs fine but when a movie starts to play it goes to black screen and I can here the sound.
If I unpatch the game or select a lower res the movies work fine but ones i patch its starts doing this.

I have tried going into the uniws patch file and deleted the notes that suppose to make the movies play in a higher res but it still does the same thing it goes to black screen and I just hear sound.

My old computer an asus g72 played the game fine with all this but it had a nvida card, might be somthing with ATI or whatever I am not sure. Might not be a fix for this though.

I have this problem as well. Videos will play with no picture but with sound. I don't have a fix for you. Presumably not patching the videos should do the trick, but you seem to have tested that to no avail. That said, I discovered that if I alt+tab out right at the start of the video, then alt+tab back in, the video will show just fine. You have to do it for every video, but at least it works. Better than nothing, I guess.

Also, for the people who say they must boot in windowed mode and then alt+enter to full screen, there is another way. The game seems to have a problem transitioning from the video player to the game. I don't know what's going on exactly, but I do know that if you don't mind not watching the intro videos, the game will boot just fine to the main menu, if you delete/rename/move the intro video files. For reference those would be: biologo.bik, leclogo.bik and legal.bik.

Many people now have laptops 13.3-14 "with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. Therefore, I hope no one will be against the final decision to launch the first KotOR'a on laptops with this resolution. Few" conjuring "I was ready for assembly, this permit which invites you. The game uses a "left" in the resolution of 1281x801 (in reality, as it turned out (and it is noticeable from the Scrin), the resolution is 1284x801). In addition, the assembly includes HUD for permission 1280x800 (based on 1440x900). Use in Health!

The installation procedure: put the contents of the archive to a directory whose establishment. Additionally, in the delivery added himself patcher.

Well. This post for the 1366x768 Players who can't play the game because of the missing text.

' you may be able work around this problem by using video card scaling and custom resolutions to setup a higher resolution that will downscale to your native resolution. '

That is impossible. There is no way to make a bigger resolution than 1366x768 to Radeon Mobility HD 4570 and the other HD series . Believe me I tried everything.

So for the 1366x users; here my solution:

1281 x 769

Yeap. 1281 x 769. :rockout One post up, Max Koshelev showed us how to open the game in resolution 1280x. With the same procedure we will make 1281 x 769 for our game without crashing. And play it with the 1440x HUD files without any problems.

Note: minimal part of the screen below not showing. But it is not effecting the game's playable. So this is the best choise for now.

Here caps and options. You can reach the Max Koshelev's files here.

- Download The Max's Files.
- Place them.
- Open the .ini files and change resolutions.
- Patch it.
- Run it and play :)

Another note: The Resolution - 1281 x 801 is making links unusefull. ( Problem with clicking texts, Solution: Clicking, 3-5 pixels below.)

Okay so I downloaded the UniWS from http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/WSGF_Hacks_for_SW:KOTOR and I got the resolution up to 1920x1080 and its looking good. EXCEPT one thing, the HUD is only in a lower resolution. So I tried to download the other patch/fix that places some fixed stuff in the 'Override' folder. But It does nothing. Is anyone else having that problem?
And for what its worth, all the HUD zip files that you can download at http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/WSGF_Hacks_for_SW:KOTOR all have the same 800x600 name.

I am having this same problem.
It isn't a game killer but it is fairly annoying.
Can anyone help me get the UI to the 1920x1080 resolution that these files are supposed to correct it to?
I am using the steam version of the game in case that makes a difference.

The above post is a first, and I've not confirmed the link so don't know whether this is just clever spam or not (apologies to aady if it's legit, we've had a lot of very clever spammers recently...)
