You need to find an "Update 4" download for Skyrim somewhere on the internet. It will include the v1.3.10 .exe and some other stuff, totaling about 200MB. Most likely in Googling you're going to end up on a torrent tracker FYI. Exe by itself is only 20MB. Oh. And turn off auto-update on steam, though there are reports this does little good sometimes.

Or you can use Helifax's fix.

*NOTE: If you use mods that are version dependent like SKSE etc, you'll need to mind you compatibility. If you don't use SKSE, it should be drag and drop of the EXE to get it working.

Hi! Give me more info:
- Skyrim complete version 1.4.x.x Is it from Steam?
- Are you using nVidia Surround or Eyefinity? -if the last dont forget to configure your plug-in 1st:)
- How many monitors are you using? x3, x5, x7, x1001 ? :)
- What resolution are you using: Normal/Corrected ?

The only way the menus would disappear is if the offset is not calculated correct. But I need more info;))

Hey Helifax,

I got it to finally work with widescreen fixer! I must have missed it earlier but I forgot to disabled automatic resolution detection in the widescreen fixer tool (running ATI 5870x2). I just put 5760x1080 in both normal and corrected resolution boxes and then run the game and it worked!

Just a few quick side notes (for debug purposes):

1). I'm also getting weird skyrimprefs.ini changes - specifically resolution changes as others have mentioned. Changing to read only will work in the meantime.
2). Everytime I quit to desktop from the ingame menu I receive the following error message from widescreen fixer.

Windows Forms Error popup message:

An application error occurred. Pleate contact the administrator with the following information:

Process with an Id of 5456 is not running. Stack Trace: xxx info listed here.

I think it may have to do more with the widescreen fixer tool itself then the skyrim plugin. (It sounds like it's trying to still write values to memory even though the application has exit).

I also thought I would give the CT Tables another try and no dice. ( I did change the proper values to 5760 and 1920). The game menu still loads squished.

Also answers to your questions above (in case you still need them):
-running Skyrim 1.4 complete from Steam
-Eyefinity (configured CT Table properly)
-3 monitors
-running Normal resolution of 5760x1080.

Thanks again for all your help!

Hey, Helifax, nice job on the Widescreen Fixer plugin! That's exactly the kind of fix that lazy people like me have been looking for XD

Unfortunately, I'm using two screens, and it squishes the menu into 1/3rd of the screen width or less no matter what I put into the config. It's still totally playable, so I'm back to my old Skyrim antics thanks to you. Perhaps I'm just doing it wrong. Any insight into that?

I'm using TH2G with two 1024x768 projectors.

Keep up the good work!

Eyefinity users please take note! This is important advice from Helifax.

I must have missed this the first time around. Don't let widescreen fixer set the resolution automatically. That is what was causing the menus to disappear/not work correctly.

Once I put in my corrected and uncorrected resolution manually, it works as advertised. :)

Hi go to http://www.widescreenfixer.org/test.php and download the WSF. Unpack it. In its folder you will see a folder "Plugins" where the you must put the dll file from my post.
Launch WSF and select Skyrim from the list.
Press the little cog on the right to configure it:
For eyefinity disable automatic detection and put your resolutions:
Normal is 5040x1050 (without bezels)
Corrected is 5230x1050 (with bezels)
Click on save and close the config window

Start the game and during the Bathesda intro movie enable the plugin (default is numpad *)
Play the game;))

Before viewing the map and reading books you will need to disable the plugin to work properly. After just enable it again to have everything corrected.
Let me know if it works;))

Ps: Just to be safe, as some people mentioned SkyrimPrefs.ini can get corrupted, put the file as read-only, Although my plugin doesnt write to files and I suspect a mod or something else modifing the file:)
Best regards,

Hello!!! Thanks for this valuable input!! At the moment I kinda hardcoded the number of monitors to 3;)) But I will just make a small change and you will be able to use the plugin for any number of monitors;)) So check this thread back in a couple of hours;)) (Not sure when I will make the updated version but it will be definetely today!)

Thanks again!;))

Hi,

1. The changes in config file is the engines doing not my own! I think he tries to save the new settings when you exit the game and the fix is working.
The only thing you can do is put the config as "Read-only" (it is best even in the future:)) )
2. Yes I saw that error and I working with dopefish in finding the cause of the issue and remove it. Still it doesnt affect the performance of the fix;))

As for the CT table..if the fix is working ignore it ;) But its the same code in the dll plugin. Although I did notice CT having unstable and unreliable results sometimes:(

Thank you very much for all the provided feedback! It is very much appreaciated!!!!

Hello all again,

I made some modifications for resolution detection, HUD Width and HUD offset calculations and Now supports every configuration from 2 monitors to 1000001 monitors:)

Now for a 5 monitor config the hud will appear on the 3rd monitor.
Now for a 2 monitor config the hud will appear half on 1st monitor and half on the 2nd monitor (In the center of the whole rendered image).
Important note: Item location is still fixed, so items and magic may look shifted more or less to the right/left

Like before:

========================================================
Go to http://www.widescreenfixer.org/test.php and download the WSF. Unpack it. In its folder you will see a folder "Plugins" where the you must put the dll file from my post. Launch WSF and select Skyrim from the list. Press the little cog on the right to configure it:

Nvidia Surround Users can leave it on auto-detect mode

Please test it and let me know;))

Helifax

[quote]Yep, using those.

They don't work for 5040x1050, which I'm stuck playing at with CCC.

These will work if you tweak the numbers a wee bit;

>3. Open SkyUI.cfg (should be in the data/interface folder) and modify the following
>itemicon.xOffset = 19.5
>itemicon.yOffset = -8
>itemicon.scale = 0.5

Just reduce one of the numbers and try it. If it doesn't work put it back and tweak another. "19" might be too much so try "19.2" ..etc.

I tried the "1o8o" .cfg and it works fine on my 12oo's (192o x 12oo).

..yea, I upgraded to the SkyUI 2. The font seems a little small still, I wonder if I can tweak that.

Now that things are working otherwise,

These changes did the trick! Thanks, Chainmale!

Ah yes, HaYDeN should be back soon, anyway helifax released a solution using a dopefish' widescreenfixer plugin, supporting Skyrim v1.4, you should definetely check the Detailed Report.

I wanted to use the plugin but I don't really know which plugin folder you mean, skyrims? The widescreenfixer install dir? Because neither of those have a folder called plugins.
And when I made a plugins folder myself in the widescreenfixer dir I didn't see Skyrim show up in the drop down menu. I never used that program before so maybe I forgot something;

Thanks

Best regards,
HelifaxOke thanks for the instructions, I got everything working with the plugin. All the menus are lined up oke so they aren't behind any bezels.
The only problem I now get with the wsf is that instead of the onscreen HUD being too much to the left, it's now placed too much to the right. (I say too much but the crosshair is about 1cm too much to the right)
When I typ in my res in WSF it gives me a corrected res of 6050*1200 for my 5760*1200, is this correct or should I change anything?
Also, do I have to do something with the bezel correction I use trough my CCC or can I just leave that enabled?
I also found out that it seems to disable vsync for some reason, is this a known "side effect" aswell?

Thanks for all the responses

Vsync should not be disable:)

Post by helifax »

Vsync should not be disable:) I am not doing anything there so;))

You should type in your numbers when you configure it;))(If you are not using Surround) Those are just predefined... If you are using NV Surround than the detected resolution is indeed the correct one;)) But I have a feeling this is the case;)) Just type in your numbers after you disable the checkbox;)) and it will work:D

If however your Hud is centered to much to the right you can decrease the Corrected resolution, but it should work:)

I tried it but for my resolution of 5760x2160 this solution doesn't really work (fonts get squished, windows go in the center of the screen, dialog option are cut) as well as HaYDeN solution. This is the reason why I came to ask about him :)

Post by dada257 »

Hi Helifax. The plugin's working pretty well, so thanks again for being the only reason I can play right now.

ATI 5870 here. Eyefinity x3, 4064 corrected rez, 3840 uncorrected.

However, since you asked, this is some of the minor behavior I'm seeing.

Yes, the Hud fonts are definitely "squished." (Also things like Character names, "Open Door" etc.)

More importantly, I've noticed that if I set the rez in WSF as instructed, 3840 uncorrected rez, 4064 corrected, the map icons will float and move--whether I disable WSF before going in or not. Makes the map much less usable.

However, if I have WSF at 4064/4064, the map will work fine--disable WSF and all the icons are where they're supposed to be and don't move when scrolling the map. I also don't really notice much of a difference in the overall display. (The only difference I've noticed is that with 3840/4064, the hud will jump to the far left screen when disabling WSF. With 4064/4064, the hud will go from squished to normal, but stay in the center when WSF is disabled.) Don't know why.

Certainly, nothing that's preventing enjoyment, and certainly a heck of a lot better than Bethesda--who really are to blame for this in the first place. :)

Stack Trace error

Post by x_Draven_x »

Hey Helifax,

First off, thanks for all of your efforts on this fix, they are much appreciated. I'm running into this error and was wondering if you have any suggestions:

Setup:
3 monitors
5760x1080
Nvida Surround (2 460GTX SLI)

I'm getting the following error message when activating the fix (*) at the menu screen.

Stack Trace:
at Plugin.The_Elder-Scrolls_V_Skyrim.The_Elder-Scrolls_V_Skyrim.Enable()
at Library.Plugin.FixerHost.Enable()
at Widescreen_Fixer.WidescreenFixer.TimerFixer_Tick(Object sender, EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Timer.TimerNativeWIndow.WndProc(MEssage & m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWIndow.Callback(InPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPTr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

I've set my Prefs.ini to read only and have verified integrity of my game files. I'm running 1.4 and not using SKSE or any other script engines to launch.

I'm using the latest version of your Fix, downloaded the plugin, selected it, and have it set to auto detect resolution.
