Thanks for the info Paddy. I saw the announcement about the drivers as well. I was just disappointed when I heard my friend with his 7950GT was running it "silky-smooth" and here I was with a substantially more powerful card running the game with poor framerates.

New drivers for the 8800's out last night ... http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_97.94.html
... they don't help at all ... :(

Speaking of drivers;

Has nVidia forgot about the rest of its cards?

According to the "accepted bugs" thread on the GSC forums, they developers apparently know about the FOV in widescreen.

"There was a discussion of widescreen support. The problem is understood, and should be fixed in the third patch."

http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums

Sounds promising.

Yeah I saw that ... I think it was posted here on the WSGF somewhere too ...

I think they have been concentrating on Vista drivers ...

Somehow ATI can do both at the same time :P

@paddy the wak,

you posted a fix for triplehead-resolutions.
Do you know wich file says:
(example)
1024x768: take hud width=x height=x
1440x900: take hud width=x height=x

?

Do you mean a file that might say what size HUD to use ... ?
If I did I would have fixed the HUD for TH ... ...

However ... there are various files that define the HUD sizes etc ... but they are rather complicated ... the main one being ... ui_hud.xml
They are all in the ... gamedataconfigui ... folder once you have unpacked all the .db files.

There are also a couple of files that seems to define the font sizes ... they are in the ... gamedataconfig ... folder ... called ... fonts.ltx ... and ... fonts.ltx~

I hope that helps ... :D

Um, so this may be a silly question, but does anyone know how to do a double install of STALKER? I've been playing with some of the mods but I can't use them with Multiplayer, which I still enjoy from time to time. Throwing in the DVD only allows me to start the game, and I'd rather not have to fuss with files each time I switch between SP and MP. Thanks,

Try renaming the following folder in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREGSC Game World

Not sure where the game looks for tho.

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned in this thread, but I found this funny:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/46449

Apparently the STALKER team may have "stolen" assets from Doom 3.

I kinda regret going to Nvidia. I didn't have nearly the number of issues with drivers and poor performance on my x1900xt as I do with this 8800GTX.

City of Heroes: On certain maps, all character models are all black.
Call of Juarez: Shadows flicker all over the place.
Stalker: Horrible performance.

And I haven't even begun to really re-install all of the games I want to play.

Oh well... for the most part, the card is amazing and extremely powerful, yet the crappy drivers really sour this purchase for me.

I know what you mean ... and they used to be so good with their drivers ...
I think nVidia are concentrating on Vista drivers (and they haven't got them right yet from what I have read) and have forgotten the XP users ... :(

You can just rename your gamedata folder to something else when you play multiplayer and then name it back again when you want to use your mods in singleplayer again.

Yeah, copying the folder worked out fine. Kind of a "duh, why didn't I think of that" situation, however I prefer having the 2 separate groupings. Easier to test out some of the many mods now available. Waiting on the next patch too...

I just completed the game today ... got the best ending too ... :D

What a game ... despite all it's faults it has to be one of the best I have ever played ... it is up there along side Deus Ex as my two favourite games ...

It is way more linear than Deus Ex but it is much more engaging and atmospheric.

The two of them ... head and shoulders above anything else.

I'm still waiting for patch 3, because you are able to play after the endings

WOOHOO!

My Stalker Game arrived at teh post office today, I pick it up tomorow. YAY. I got it for $23.50 (plus postage) from Thailand, the seller said it was a fair dinkum copy, I hope so.

Now allz I gotzta do is wait for a decent graphics card to show up on my door step so I can play it.

Hey Paddy, your Deus Ex comment made me buy it (and a new 8800GTS) as Deus Ex is easily my fav game of all time too, so far.
