Vote Now - WSGF 2011 Gaming Awards
I would also like to point
I would also like to point out that virtually any Source engine based games will always have this minor issue. This issue can be traced back all the way to Half-Life 2. Since then, Valve did nothing to add any support nor add any cvar setting to adjust where the HUD elements can be placed. Granted, Portal 2 is a personal favorite favored by many. However, as mentioned, there's consistency and having to set the bar technically high as graded by all of us.
If and when Valve ever updates their Source engine, and back-ports it to fix the issues that plagued all of their Source games, then we can go back and re-evaluate it.

Saints Row 3 is just awesome.

Fair enuff..still...not
Fair enuff.. ( technical gui concerns )
still...
not acknowledging brilliant graphic work sometimes revolutionary work! due to what such widescreen compositions bring to the interactive table is silly in itself. That would be like not acknowledging Finnegan's Wake because of bad binding.
This could be solved simply. With a creative graphic category.
grumble grumble... next year if need be? In which case I'll vote now. ( WOW that was tough )

On a side note, I think it's amusing that more people have voted on the narrow-minded award than any other. People are more upset at those two companies than are happy with others, heh.

Personally, I'm rather disappointed to see that Codemasters are effectively going to win two awards.
After their behaviour and attitude with F1 2010 and F1 2011, I've decided that I'll vote with my wallet. ;) I won't support a dev/pub who ships something broken by design, refuses to fix it saying it'll take too long, promises that it'll be fixed in the next years' release... where it isn't. But we're not voting on broken game mechanics - purely on widescreen/Surround implementation... where at least they seem to get that right.
That said, I cast my vote, other cast theirs... democracy at work. ;)

Can't say I've played many recent Codemasters games, but I really do wish Croteam was getting more love from our poll. Something I noticed in the latest SS3:BFE update:
Code: Select all
- FOV slider now shows its value.
- Moved FOV menu slider to graphics options.
- Changed FOV lower bound from 75 to 60 degrees.
- FOV override now works in versus games. I get a laugh from item 3. Accomodating the console-addicted, I suppose!
But at least the FOV is still
But at least the FOV is still adjustable. That's the key thing.
I'm also not a big fan of Codemasters. When it comes to trigger-finger shooters like BF2, BC2, CoD, and the like, dedicated servers is pretty much a must, especially in the competitive area. When I saw Operation Flashpoint, I thought it'd look nice as a FPS game until something decent come out. Then I hear that it's all based on peer-to-peer networking, which throws me off. Even though the game looks nice and has some interesting aspect about it, the fact that a quick-reflex shooting game running over P2P ruined it for me. I had noticed on their forums that people have been calling out Codemasters to make a dedicated server for the game but it seems as though it never came to be.
I still firmly believe that the big winners ought to be Croteam and Serious Sam 3. I'd rather look at the whole package and what it offers than saying which game is the best and has the best technical support for widescreen and multi-mon gaming solutions. The quality of the game as well as how the game is designed when multiplayer is involved should be taken into account. But that's just my opinion.
