That is absolutely epic.

I wish I had IPS monitors...

IPS monitors are MUCH cheaper than they used to be. I bet they will be in your price range at your next upgrade. Remember, eBay is your friend. Sell your old kit to help pay for the new ones...

It seemed your side monitors looked just like the centers as far as image. On my setup with 3 screens, playing BFBC2 on the side monitors the images look stretched a little compared to the center. Is this the same on yours and I just couldn't tell or am I doing something wrong to have this on mine?

I'm all new to this if that is a stupid question. It seems this way with Just Cause 2. I just got these games yesterday and today.

With 5x1-P, the FOV isn't as wide as 3x1-L. So, there is less "stretching" or distortion. You can get a feel for the difference between the different options with our FOV & Aspect Calc.

If a game on a single 16:9 screen has an FOV of 90 deg, 3x1-L has an FOV of 152. 5x1-P has and FOV of 129. 5x1-P is ~40 deg more than 16:9, but ~23 less than 3x1-L. So, you get a lot more FOV, but it doesn't expand to the point of stretching.

This is one of the reasons I like 5x1-P. Another is that 5x1-P is about the same width as 3x1-L (assuming same size monitors). However, they are significantly taller, and fill both your Hor and Vert field of vision. Downside is the greater number of bezels, but I think the good outweighs the bad. And, I'm looking at the possibility of stripping the plastic off my bezels as well.

Gar, I just sold my asus eyefinity 6 and replaced it with an XFX 6970. The 6970 is supposed to support up to six monitors, but you need some new adapter. Does anybody know when the new adapters will hit market?

I swear if its not one thing its another to get in my 5x1 way, lol

Adapters are this summer. You are looking for a DP 1.2 Multi Stream Transport (MST) Hub.

I've done some reading up since I posted and have read about the fisheye/distortion look on the sides and really you just have to live with it. I haven't been into my .ini file to see what the default is on BFBC2 for FOV but if I was to change it to try to make it better which way should I go? Where is this calculator?

I have 16:10 monitors and running a res of 5040x1050.

I guess I was used to iracing where they render each screen separately and it looks fantastic with no distortion on the sides.

I knew this was in the pipeline, but didn't think it was going to be available before CES at the very earliest. It's a welcome surprise. Now just for me to pick up another 245BW. I'd do this projector too but the budget isn't in the cards for me at the moment. :cheers

iRacing is a unique and exemplary example of Eyefinity support.

Hahaha, I was waiting for you to post.

But really, I'm wondering, if I should trade my 3x30"rs in for 5x24"rs. I think I would miss the vertical height. But then I look and see, "oh my wallet hurts from working at burger king."

So to get this right! If i get 2 more matching native dp monitors that also have dvi inputs. (dell p2210) Then if the 6990 had the exact setup as far as interfaces go on the 6970 could I go 2 mini dp to dp on first 2 / 2 dvi to either dvi or use a dvi to dp adapter on second 2 // on the fifth go hdmi to dvi adapter or hdmi to dp adapter if there is one. Could I then go 5x1 portrait with bm even though the same 5 monitors would have different inputs used. Or do I have to wait for that new 1.2 dp port thing??

You have to wait.

Yes. The current ref design allows for four monitors to be hooked up: Mini-DP + Mini-DP + 2x (HDMI, DVI or DVI). My prediction is that the 6990 will support five or six displays. Otherwise, why release the 5x1-P driver right now, right before CES, and right before the 6990 launch?

I hope so, I want a 6 output replacement with the future potential for more via the hubs - shame they couldn't release their own dp 1.2 hubs alongside.

The DP 1.2 hub concept is pretty interesting. Why tie up development resources on that though when other manufacturers will? I fully expect Matrox to push an interesting DP 1.2 hub of some sort as a GXM box. Technically speaking, I suppose the TH2G DP is a precursor to the DP 1.2 Hub.

I hope I can hook up 5x1 in portrait right out of the box. To spend another batch of money for the 1.2 dp box thing would not make me happy. As soon as I find out if the 6990 has direct output to five or 6 monitors it is mine. I just hope they don't have to castrate it to much to get it to fit the power envelope. Even with power tune if they have to de-tune it so much that might be a issue,

I hate waiting!

AMD has an EyeFinity6 6000-series in the development pipeline, but AMD partners don't have that design yet in production. I fully expect it to be out in the next 6 months or so. I'm not bothered by the DP 1.2 hub. The price of them are what is going to be at issue, not that they exist. Success of it will depend upon price point. What makes EyeFinity so great is any single card can do it. You start adding in excess hardware to achieve things and the entry level benefit to all is lost. That is why Matrox never achieved success with GXM boxes with the mainstream public.

I am using 2x260gtx right now for 5040x1050 and there is a big diff between my 5970 and that.
I guess I kind of figured all the 69 series cards would be like the eyefinity6 cards from the get go.
In a way :o I wish I would of never saw the 5x1 p thread. I was impatient before the thread waiting for 6990. Now I have to wait plus wonder if it will support the 5x1P setup. I really do not want another breakout box. I also have to give the 2x260gtx back on 1st of Jan.
