Preview 10.3a is up
Re: Preview 10.3a is up
God sweet driver. It will not overwrite and save profiles even after I edit one. Everytime I go from Eyefinity when it works to Extended my monitors or all out of wack and different every time. I made a little video of what happened when I went to Eyefinity mode. This is absolute garbage. The 10.3 preview I had before worked good. Besides crashing all the time in BC2. And the ATIKMPAG.SYS BSOD I got but hey no one has ever heard of that before even ATI reps know nothing or they just don't want to comment.
But if you are bored and want to see something awesome that this driver does check this out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSmVQVmJICQ
Enjoy!!!!!!!
I had to unplug my monitor and cable because the one that was messed up was my main monitor in Eyefinity so I could not get to anything. After I did that it showed two monitors then I plugged it back in and detected monitors then it popped up.

Good god, so I decided to call ATI and talk to support then I got transferred to higher level support and I can't beleive some of the stuff the guy was telling me.
Basically he admitted to them not doing much testing and it is a very common problem to reproduce old problems, I said so they don't regression test and he said not always haha.
Then I ask him about the atikmpag.sys BSOD and he said yea it is known and is a common problem that can happen but there is no way for us to test it so there is no information on it. He said there is no known hardware that is causing it. I said so it is driver related then, he said yea pretty much I guess you could say that haha. He said that it is to difficult to replicate for them to test to see what is causing the problem.
He also went on to say every driver he has used for the past 10 years has had some kind of problem, he said there will always be some type of problem with each driver release just depends on the system. And it is all tested with the Cert Team, and all this is driver related.
He said he suggest finding a driver that works for what I want it to do basically have to pick and choose what is more important to me. I have now made up my mind and going to sell my card. I am not going to deal with working driver here and there and then new drivers reproducing old problems because they don't know or feel like doing a deep testing plan.

nvidia is 10x worse at the moment

Sure they are maybe if you are trying to run them with your ATI card pfffft. Why do you even bother trying to argue with me about driver issues. I am on the EVGA forums and people are laughing at this. They do not have these problems so what ever. Don't feed people garbage. This is honestly exactly what the tech was telling me.
Anyway after fiddling with these for ever I uninstalled ran driver sweeper in safe mode. Re installed and they are still messed up. After messing with the profiles for ever. I noticed we are back to having to well at least I am I have to hit my Extended shortcut 3 times for it to align properlly odd I was just mentioning about not doing any regression testing.
Re: Preview 10.3a is up
Yep first time I click the Extended Shortcut it turns off both side monitors awesome.
Re: Preview 10.3a is up
Update:
After reinstalling and uninstalling swapping cable config on card about 15 times today. It has finally installed correctly and saves my profiles in the correct configuration. I do not know what the issues was but I just kept uninstalling and then reinstalling and swapped the cable config a couple times and now it is working. Just played BC2 for a bit and it did not crash so... we will see.

When I switch from my eyefinity profile to regular extended, the monitors are in the wrong order. Reloading the regular profile 3 times gets them in the correct order. I've tried remaking the profile 2-3 times and I get this quirk every time.
Re: Preview 10.3a is up
I get another 7fps in Crysis EF benchmark. All other games benched within 2fps of the previous 10.3 beta drivers. Profiles load from hotkey and shortcuts a bit quicker, but the display arrangement is still incorrect, but only for the left display, for some reason. Loading the profile once more fixes this. Maybe it's because it's on DVI 2? Or is it 1? I dunno; surely one of the DVI connectors but be considered the first on a 5870? I would assume it's the one closest the PCB...
Anyway, I don't really see a change. But certainly no worse, so it's good enough.

Re: Preview 10.3a is up
I used the press release version of 10.3 drivers with windows 7, and NFS shift was very often freezing.
With this version no freezing.
With this version no freezing.
Re: Preview 10.3a is up
Well played BC2 again today and it crashed twice, once to desktop and the second to atikmpag.sys BSOD.
What should I do guys? Has anyone ever heard of this atikmpag.sys BSOD ATI knows of the problem yet the Tech said they can't test it because it is to hard to test for and there is no information on it.

Re: Preview 10.3a is up
Thats whats known as a generic error and could point to a myriad of things - it could be cuased by the software install, it could be caused by a problem with the graphics card, it could be a stick of memory going bad, it could be that the system isn't getting enough power, etc., etc.

Well that is odd what kind of BSOD is that it obviously comes back with atikmpag.sys so where is it pulling that from. From the name it would seem that it is something to do with ATI being hardware or software.
If this was a memory problem or hard drive problem or any other problem I am assuming it would be a different BSOD.
I had posted this on another Forum and one of the very active members that knows a lot posted this to me.
"It's a driver recovery. It means your card crashed under load. It could be caused from an unstable overclock, temps getting too high on the VDDC phase 1-4 or could simply be a driver bug. Try going back to the 10.2 official set and see if the problem persists. "
So what would you suggest Dave. Was this guy on the right track or does he not know what he is talking about. Because yea the tech said they are well aware of it. And I just find it odd that it would be caused by anything other then ATI hardware or software since the BSOD is atikmpag.sys
Are there any tests I can run on the card to see if it is faulty. I mean obviously you are aware of the issue and someone had to of created the file atikmpag.sys so someone should know something about it. I even see this when the driver is installing all the files I see the exact name atikmpag real quick of all the things it is installing so what is it.

Re: Preview 10.3a is up
I've had graphics drivers reported as the fault in BSOD situations for both nVidia and ATi cards where it's been nothing to do with the GPU at all; a few times it's been a dodgy overclock on my testing rig, once it was PCI-E frequency too high (no SATA corruption as I was using IDE) I had the BIOS assign a soundcard to the same IRQ as the GPU once and that caused the BSODs whenever the GPU and soundcard tried to do a lot at the same time...
The desktop crash I'm more inclined to say is a buggy game. It's new, things don't get tested well enough any more. The BSOD... despite blaming it on the GPU driver probably isn't directly GPU related. I'd say the same thing if it was an nVidia card.

So did any of your BSOD come back with atikmpag.sys, and if it was nvidia gpu you think it would then come back as nvidiakmpag.sys didn't think so...

No, with NVIDIA it generally comes up with a nvlddmkm error. Here is a thread on it over at (and atikmpag.sys) NVIDIA's forums:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=100800&hl=nvlddmkm
I'd take a look.

So the guy was right about it being a driver recovery issue, and the one posted in that thread is atikmdag not atikmpag. And also that thread was mostly on the driver stopped responding and yes I know about that one from Nvidia I had it happen before with my 260 SLI setup I had, but a new driver fixed it.
Thanks for posting the thread though. I wanted to let you know that I have ran memtest with no errors, I ran Prime for a few hours and my voltages did not drop so my PSU should be efficient. My temps on CPU and GPU when running Prime and games are around 35C on CPU and 62-65C on GPU. I know I am not overheating, this was all monitored with Everest.
I did notice it mentioned sometimes Realtek can cause the issue for the Nvidia one so I uninstalled my Realtek, I did just update this a while ago.
Re: Preview 10.3a is up
It's a very generic error. You should remove all hardware (soundcard, usb drive/sticks, etc) and use one memory module (i see you have 2 x 2gb) at a time. Then boot up the system and do some testing. Stuff like this is hard to narrow down though.

I am using onboard sound, I don't have any USB drives just KB/M. I ran memtest with no errors. What else do you suggest.

I would still remove a 2gb module and test the system. Try a different pci-e slot for the card. Did you disable the onboard sound to? Try to use the windows nforce drivers instead of nvidia's. And if possible post the error log. Or send in pm.
